| What's the deal with the Koko Head Shooting Complex? Show up, Pay, Shoot? Any details would be appreciated. Thanks. |

| Yep... I thoguht it was kind of hard to believe too. I have only been here about two months, but went to the range last weekend. I found the plans and built the frames (maybe 20 bucks in wood and fastners from the Home Depot) showed up to the range watched for a few minutes then signed the guest book and started firing. I did not have a spotting scope, but will have one next time. The rangemaster normally has a cease fire about every half hour to change targets, so if you dont want to wait, you will need a scope to see the shots. I only used the pistol and rifle range, but there seemed to be plenty of open lanes. |
| Thats what sucks about Koko head, especially on the pistol side. 25 yds is too far for the first row of targets.. If there was a 10yd line i would be happier. Its hard to introduce new shooters to pistols when the target looks so far to them. I would rather have a closer target sometimes too, especially if i am shooting a snubbie or something small. |

I am sure that the "rules" for the range state no more than 5 rounds loaded at any one time. I have shot my M1A and have 20 round magazines and no one has said anything. The Koko Head Rules Know and obey all range commands During a cease-fire, all firearms must be unloaded, with the magazines out, and benched Do NOT handle any firearms or stand at the firing line during a cease-fire Load no more than 5 rounds in the magazine No rapid or indiscriminate firing Shoot only at authorized targets. No plinking of objects on backstop berm or on the ground. Human silhouette targets are not allowed Wear eye and ear protection Minors, age 20 and below must be accompanied by an adult Children 9 – 12 years of age may fire .22 Long Rifle caliber only. An adult must be standing next to and assisting the child Children 8 years and younger are prohibited from using firearms Children 10 years and older in possession a valid Hawaii Hunter Safety Card, may fire Center fire rifles No alcohol or illegal drugs allowed No gambling from their website khsc.info |

I have been corrected for the more than 5 rounds rule several times mostly because I am an idiot and just grab a loaded mag from home. Stupid rule IMHO but I am just accept it and will abide, given that I am given such a nice range with a good staff of ROs to run it for free. BTW I know at least 1 of the range officers is a member here he remarked to a friend of mine that he saw some pics of my ARs on this forum. -Mike |
not saying the gun was loaded just the mag... and then stored separately in my range bag as far as I know there is no restriction on loaded magazines. I try to cycle my mags as opposed to leaving them loaded for extended periods of time -Mike |
| Yea, I am not sure if there is rules against that or not... I just moved here from Kaliforia and the rules there are pretty strict too, but at least you can have AR's here. I don't own one yet, but I am just waiting for the 1st of October for bonus money. I am a little worried about buying one figuring I will probably get transferred back to the West Coast eventually and then have a gun I cannot shoot in California. |
