I bought a Sentry Safe model G5241 from the Pearl City Home Depot today and after getting it into the house and set up I realized I dont have the book.  After calling Home Depot and explaining the situation they said they might be able to get me the combo without me sending a $12 money order and notarized proof of purchase to the manufacturer for the combo that Sentry Safe requires.  I would have exchanged it had I known about this earlier but my muscle and truck are gone for the day leaving me with a car, wife, and two toddlers to take it back if I want to.  For anyone who has bought one of these, is the combo also displayed anywhere on the box, or anywhere else on the safe other than the manual that I dont have?

As far as I know, pretty much every safe will require validation of identity.  Sheesh, to find out after moving it, what a pain.  Took me about 45 minutes to get it in the house and in the right spot by myself, phew.  If I ever move it again, it will be when moving to another house.  And I'm hiring someone else :)

Did you happen to check the 'secret' floor trap to see if the book is in there?

Great news, the manager at Home Depot called this morning and I met with her at the store abouta  hour ago, she had the combo from the manufacturer and gave me a book out of another box.  I made sure to point out the serial and combo on the manual so she tore that off and kept it so the next guy wouldnt have that problem, shes waiting on another manual to replace the one I have now.  Now to drill the floor...

I bought a large safe (Liberty) and wanted to set my own combo but it would have been an ordeal. Luckily the manufacturer's combo was good enough.

I bought, from the manufacturer mind you, a set of pegs to hang handguns on which are installed on the inside of the door.  Problem is the manufacturer would not tell me where I could or could not drill because they didn't want to give out construction details (thus informing criminals of the inside mechanics).  I would have to drill at my own risk and hope I didn't hit one of the glass bolts which shatter upon tampering preventing futher movement of the door bolts until it's cut open.

I never installed them.

Enjoy the safe but I can guarantee you that no matter what size safe you bought, you'll wish it was bigger...

P.S. I keep the packing material and cut it so that I open the large cardboard box like a door, then open the safe so then when closed it looks like a boxed refrigerator or otherwise - not a safe.

I got the black one also, I didnt realize that about the walls though.  Seems pretty tough to me, although nothing like a full size fireproof safe like I wanted.  I already ran out of space on the top shelf, and dunno how Im gonna fit 14 rifles in here when I have 4 rifles with optics in it now that are all touching, spaced as far as I can from each other.  I guess its meant for open sighted farm guns or something, haha.

For future reference, Home Depot writes the combo to the safe on the wooden pallett that it ships on. It may be on the side of the wooden pallet, or written on the pallett boards under the safe. At least this is what the HD in Kailua Kona on the Big Island does! Just look for 3 sets of numbers.

I bought a Sentry safe (gray one, not fireproof) at Lowes in Kailua Kona, and the price was quite fair, around $350. I think the safe's serial number was on the pallet or on the safe itself, on the side or back. You can use the serial number to call Sentry and register and get the combo (note to self: remove serial number sticker from side of safe, put in file!). I think after you register with Sentry, you have to have a password to get the combo from them.
