They just reported on the radio we have set a record for the longest cold snap in history for Alaska 8 1/2 weeks straight of 20 below or colder They reported that there are over 1000 homes in Fairbanks with frozen pipes or septic systems |

Our house has been frozen twice, and have been without fuel once this winter. The first time we were without water for 3 days. The second time we went 5 days without water before Bigfoot could get out to un-thaw the pipes. Turns out that the tenant that lives next door un-plugged the heat tape that keeps the feed line from the well warm. ![]() We went without fuel because the land-lord decided to delay ordering it. Sucks because it happened when we were down around -40. It was a cold night.

Another cold related death. Went out this morning to start my van. It started first crank. Then my oil pressure dropped like a rock. I blew the rear main seal. What sucks is i don't have a garage where i can work on it. Every place i called wants an arm and a leg plus one nut to work on it. i'M on a fixed income Soc Security and cant afford 1000.00 or more. Garages are a rip off here in Fairbanks. |

The sun belt around the Homer area is great. I just got tired of vehicals not running and having to wear coats all year round. Down here springs is fighting to start and I believe we are not to far off. That being said we are still cold in the morning and will be getting some snow this next week. I do like that we are not issued parkas down here, just rain jackets. |
