How about Wild West Guns?  They built full tilt 1911 race guns among other things, been published several times, but sometimes I question their attitude.

the problem I have with them is that when I spend my money someplace I dont want ot be made to feel inferior ... I expect some customer service of some type when i spend money someplace

Dean does gunsmithing?  I thought he just bought every used gun in town and doubled the price.

haha, obviously he's onto something.   I don't know how much 'smithing Hoop is actually doing these days, but at least he'll screw you properly.

I hate getting lip from gunsmiths.  There were some really good smiths in Fairbanks but it was painful. I lost the bead sight to my mossberg once and stopped by arctic gun works for a replacement, had to listen to what a POS Mossbergs are for 5 minutes, then listen to what a shithead I was because I didn't have cash (I offered to ride over the the ATM) had my visa thrown at me.  And, I paid double what I should have.... I was going on a paddling trip the next day and wasn't about to go without my bear gun or a front sight.  I never went back.

Jesus dude.  I'm amazed you were able to put up with that; I think I would just have gone paddling (or whatever) without the sight.

Gary (Gary Junk - Owner Arctic Gunworks) does have an opinion on a lot.  I took a taurus titanium (not a POS pistol by any means) to him for a trigger job.  He did it for me and after that it had a bad rattle.  Then the gun every so often I could pull the trigger back and the gun wouldn't fire (hammer didn't move).  Take it in he says he dry fired it 200 times and coudn't replicate problem.  I stand there and dry fire it 3 times and it happens.  Out of 20 times it happens 3 while I am standing there talking to him.  Final answer, Taurus is a POS, you should have bought a S&W.  Needless to say that was the last work he did for me.  Upto that point I had been very happy.

Gary Junk, master of attitude for sure.  He absolutely refuses to work on military arms like AR-15's ("got sick of them when I was in the service").  So I can just go F myself.  I did finally manage to have him mount a scope for me.  It went on an ARMS QD mount for my AR SPR.  He demanded to have the firearm that the scope was to mount on so I brought it in expecting him to start bitching.  I think since it was so tricked out, he made an exception.

He only works on firearms HE wants to, it has nothing to do with the customer, and he has a strong opinion on everything.  Going to his shop is as enjoyable as going to the dentist to get a root canal.

In Fairbanks, there is another guy I would go to, Ken Corcoran in North Pole. I haven't done business with him but he does good things for one of my shooting buddies.  He doesn't advertise cause he doesn't have to, people seek him out.  I know he had a couple of M1 Garands for consignment sale at Pro-Tec which were very nice by the way, they were rebarrelled with Douglass barrels, one standard and the other in .308.  Bill at Pro-Tec would have his contact info.  Down Under takes a while and you have to listen to Doug Albright's speeches and attitudes (If he don't like it, it's pure shite).  Luckily I get special favor there due to some dealings in the past.  There just aren't hardly any real master gunsmiths in Fairbanks.  Most only offer basic skill jobs.

Well then, I guess it's settled... time for Darxieboy to learn himself some gunsmithing.
