God I miss Carrs. I used to like going grocery shopping, and was actually proud(!) that ANC had such a good grocery store. But I can't stand the place now that Safeway's taken over. their take out food is inedible, they stock all the crappy Lucerne and Safeway brands, they always understaff their checkout lines so it takes forever to check out, the stores are so dingy and the produce is crappier, and they raised the prices in the liquor store far beyond Brown Jug  They suck, and Fred Mysers is 3x farther away and much more crowded, becaus so many people prefer their groceries to Safeways. Yeah, as soon as I heard of the buyout I knew that the Carrs stores would drop to the dingy condition of the local Safeways. The really funny one (I think) is the new store built after the buyout (thinking of the one on 88th) that they called Carrs instead of Safeway. Does this really fool anyone? |

I had lunch at Larry Carr's home a many years ago(He used to date my mother and was family friends with my parents). Only place I have ever been with servants. At the time he was very excited about his new jet that could fly non-stop to Honolulu. Very nice people though. He on the other hand liked Safeway...for millions of reasons.
