Hey guys, The wife and I just got back from AK and finally got a place lined up to live. Looks like we'll be living in Wasilla temporarily (year or so) until we can either find a more rural house to buy or a nice plot of land farther out. Spent some time visiting friends up in Trapper Creek, I wish we could live up there but I have no clue what I'd do for work, heh. So anyway, looks like we will most likely be able to make the Sept. shoot since we will be done with the move on the 7th of September or so. |

Welcome to Alaska! If you like the valley and are looking to live in/near a small town, drive another 20 or so miles down the Glen highway north of Wasilla through Palmer and into Sutton. Mile 61 is the center of the town - There's a general store, post office, elementary school, fire dept., and the Alpine Inn. You might want to consider Palmer or the Butte as the in-between (Sutton/Wasilla). If you're looking to buy land in the valley, the sooner the better. Because the price of land is growing fast as the demand is also. |
| Heh, not looking to hide out. Just looking for somewhere that isn't going to grow anytime soon. I'd like to be able to have a big enough piece of land to shoot on and not have to worry too much about people building around us. Drove through Sutton while we were there and it's actually pretty high on our list right now :) The place we are currently renting is out on Knik-Goose Bay, BTW. Funny thing is the more time I spend up there the more I wonder why I didn't move sooner. |
| Yeah, we made it up Hatchers Pass while we were there too. We didn't go all the way up but we made it about as far as the Mother Lode Lodge. Wife and I are putting together a website and I'll post the pics soon and a link here as soon as she get's her film developed. The view just blows me away. Worked out pretty good as we got our place taken care of on the first day unexpectedly so we had 4 days to just cruise around checking things out. Thanks for the tip, btw, I'll definitely check out the BLM/DNR land sales. |
| Go up past the Mother Lode the view is even better oh and don't eat at the Mother Lode its to high priced and it made me sick the only time I have been there. If you go up higher there is an abandoned mine that you can walk around. I'll probably be down there in a couple weeks wife wants to visit her family even though we spent 2 of the last 4 weekends down there so that I could build her mom a fencehave |
