Bought a new toy/tool.
winchester 94. 18" barrel.  4+1  in 450 marlin.  It has a 24/7 ghost ring sight with a big wide front blade.  Ported barrel.  Very nice recoil pad.
Weighs about 6 lbs
Photos when I get them.
$410.
I wanted a guide gun from Marlin in SS, but they were out of stock.  The ported barrel and sights really sold me.

Keep a close eye on the front site.  I have heard some bad stories of the Wild West Copilot guns and their front sights.  Not all bad, but enough to warrant prudent attention.

Congradulations.

I sold a Marlin 1895SS at the previous TVSA gunshow, did not sell the 1895G Guide Gun sitting next to it - both New condition, unfired like most of my firearms.  I was selling them so I could bankroll a new 1895GS - the Stainless Steel guide gun or lay foundation for a tricked out Wild West CoPilot.

Yes, a fine choice you have made to keep the pesky bears at bay IMHO.

Funny how you buy guns and hope you never NEED it.  Kinda like insurance.
I am curous how its going to feel first time I pull the trigger.  Thats a lot of bullet in not so much gun.

When it comes time to pull the trigger in dire need, you're not going to notice...

Yeah, it will be peppy for sure.  Personally, I really like shooting 45-70, it's more of a slow push instead of a sharp kick.  I have no experience with the .450 but after hearing about the Alaskan .450 or the Alaskan .500 it can't be THAT bad.

A stiff 12 g. load is worse than those big cowboy rounds, recoil-wise.

I don't think so.   400 grains at 1900 fps is moving!

Yeah but your gun is all ported and stuff.

I'd love to have one of the Wild West take-down lever actions - is that the co-pilot?  Too rich for my blood though.

That, and after meeting the owner of Wild West I have a hard time handing money over to him...

There is definitely a stainless Marlin 30-30 or 45-70 in my future though.  Just not sure when...

I loved my guide gun, WWG .457 fun to shoot. I traded it for an upper and a Dawson Tactical Advantage .45 Here is a link to my old gun tombnet.org/sharp/_457_guide_gun.htm I used it out in the argo just in case.

The owner of WWG is decent enough - not sure if he is being sarcastic when he calls me "old friend," but had trouble dealing with some of his employees getting money back for part of a work package not performed on a restoration.  Raised a fuss every time I went in to get it back.  He was always gone at some gunshow, and his wife was in and made the refund.

I have a 1894 in  450 Marlin I would like to redo the sights on.  Big ghost ring and front blade.

Range report.
Recoil wasn't that bad.  Put 20 rounds down range.  Shoulder is fine, no bruising.  The sights are very easy to pick up quickly.  Tritium would be better.  450 marlin kicks up some dust!  I wore double hearing protection.  If I don't kill the bear, one shot may scare the shit out of it.
Now for the bad news.
Good call on the front sight.  Got loose.  So did the rear.  The rear can be fixed with loctite.  The front can't.
Also, the front sight post is too low.  Shot 12-18" high at 100 yards with the rear sight as low as it goes.
Pretty aggrevating.
took it back to Galyans and they are going to send it back to US Repeating Arms.
Can't see myself buying another Winchester after this.
But, I am a little more confident in my shooting the thing.  I did a string of 4 rapid fire and stayed on target at 20 yards. It will do what I need it to.
Also, I was (maybe still am) a recoil pussy.
After shooting skeet anda couple hundred rounds of 12 gauge a week, my tolerance for recoil has gone way up.  Next time I might get that .338 winchester magnum.

It's still all good, at least to me.  If you DO get a .338 - think about a .375H&H instead.  It doesn't recoil as bad as it's not as sharp and is what I would have gotten instead of my .338 had I known then what I know now...

Waiting for the pics now.

Edited to fix key word

Why the 375?  How are the ballistics between 200 and 300 yards. Long range, but carribou can be some long shots.
