I spent some quality time at a friend's house last Wednesday and we got to talking about the raffles when the IAHTF used to get together.  I went to the show today and it reminded me again of how much I enjoyed those conversations with Booger, Nemo, Beebe, Coltgunner, Septic, Lonewolfgun, and a host of other regulars.

I "won" some pretty cool stuff at a few of those raffles and had some pretty entertaining conversations while I was at it.

It looks like the next Fairgrounds show is on the 23 of January.  I'll post up again a little before then, but I'm thinking a winter raffle after the end of a Friday night 4H building show would be pretty entertaining.

Yammer, I completely forgot all about the Fairgrounds gunshow this weekend!

I totally agree that a raffle is LONG overdue and have kind of dropped the ball on setting these up as I've only attended one gunshow in the last 3 years or so.  There used to be a lot of fun and spirited conversations at the raffles but I'll give you guys a hint...don't tailgate Septic on his way home after a raffle.

We'll keep that weekend as the tentative next raffle and will find out whether Friday or Saturday works best for everyone.  One bad thing is that the gunshow doesn't get over until 2100 (9 PM for you civilians) on Friday (compared to 1700/5 PM on Saturday) which makes for a long night for those that live a ways away or if anyone has tables set up at that show.

We'll keep the discussion going on this topic and see what kind of reaction we can get going for people to attend.

I don't mind donating but I feel my luck is bad for raffles so I know as long as $ goes to something good it works for me most unlucky person when it comes to drawings

Our raffles don't have donations.  You just win an excuse to go home with cool stuff. The best part is that everyone who attends wins.

By the way, you are still on my list of people to hunt down. I haven't forgotten.

It is called a "raffle" that way when you buy things from the gunshow and the wife finds out you can tell her you won it/them at a raffle.  Problem solved...and a somewhat clear conscience.  Win...Win situation!  I know it's been quite a while since we've had one of these and I'm sure that there are a lot of new people on the Iowegian HTF that are unfamiliar with what our "raffles" had consisted of in the past.

Years past we've met at Okoboji's there by Copper Creek Theater off University east of the Fairgrounds, one time we went to Legends across the road only to find out they had karaoke/live band that night...last time we went there I believe.

Sounds good I think a get together would be cool esp all after a show

I was just telling Romp at the show this weekend we need to do another dinner and movie night.  He brought up the American Sniper movie.  It is coming out in the middle of January, so that is a possibility as well.

I'd be up for the dinner and a movie as I was unable to make it to the last one...I think it was End of Watch wasn't it?
