It aggrivates me that people pick the 1"ers just so they have something to take a picture of. There's a FB page for the Iowa morel season and several people are posting a half dozen baby mushrooms they've already pulled.

Hoping this sunshine will help bring em out in central Iowa. Really want to go hit up the Saylorville area.

Not a big mushroom eater, but was just talking to a friend who's getting fired up. Mentioned a morel festival he's planning on going to but don't remember where. Me, I'm not confident enough in my ID skills to eat a wild mushroom that I pick.

first couple days in the 70-80s and they will showing up

Never been hunting for them, but my boss said hunting for them with her uncle is a sure win. I hate mushrooms, but I love any excuse to get out in nature and enjoy it.

I plan on letting everyone I hunt with split whatever I find. I know they'll enjoy them.

Dandelion flowers prepared the same taste about the same.
Pull the stem and green leaves off.

I've heard the dandelion story too, but I'll stick with the morels. Another little known favorite is the giant puffballs that turn up about the end of September. Around here they get the size of soccer balls, and they are really good sliced and battered like morels. Gotta pick them when they are white and firm, before they start to turn dark and go to spore.

Sister in law's boyfriend went out near his hometown(Dubuque area) and found over 16 pounds. Gave me a big baggie full, probably 3/4 pound. FOr those more experienced than me, how long are they good for in the fridge, and can they be frozen or dehydrated?

Another way that works is to batter and fry them up, then layer them on wax paper in a freezer container and then freeze them. They nuke up nicely when you want them.

Anyone tried flash freezing them in liquid nitrogen?
Might work?

Wow, 16lbs?! Most people I've heard from are scoring 5lbs max. That's quite the haul.

I was pretty impressed too. The two bags he shared were full of good sized ones too, I passed them on to my brother in law-he was very interested in them and more likely to eat them before they went bad than me.
