Anybody around Des Moines have a mid level optic that you wouldn't mind letting me try out?
I'm looking for a 1-4x, maybe a Vortex, Burris mtac or the like, maybe something fancier. I don't know of any store around here that stocks that kind of stuff. I can't even find anything aimpoint. I'm thinking an hour or so at the range in Ankeny on the weekend or after work. Shoot our own ammo. I have some fun toys you could try out that maybe you were thinking about. Geissele trigger, 223 fal, Tavor, pistols. My stuff loves cheap steel cased junk so that's no issue. Post up if you want to try something out or have something to offer. |
|
Cool, you helped get it in my head that I want a vortex now.
You ever been to the Ankeny Ikes? It's pretty convenient. I carry a steel gong target in my trunk ready to go just in case. I work in Urbandale and can be at the range by 6 if you have a weekday that works. Or weekends are good too. Any specific toys you want to play with? I can bring an assortment. |

Going to try and be at the USPSA tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. I didn't want to use any ammo last season so I skipped all the Tuesday matches. |

I'm still open tuesday unless saturday will work if you want to meet with bobroberts and I.
I really just want to see the range and maybe shoot some with my new shotgun so no need to bring any toys for me to play with. BTW Let me know tonight if you want to go tomorrow afternoon |

I've got some private land down here in Pella to shoot at if you want to try out any of my stuff Vortex Sparc Fixed Vortex 4x Scope Bushnell TRS25 A couple Leopold 3-9x40's (older Vari-X style both I and II) That is a good collection. I'll probably just stick around town. Private land sure has it's advantages though. Quoted:

I know you said your looking for a 1-4x, but I have an aimpoint pro you could use. I work in Ankeny as well. I've been wanting to look at one of those too. I almost bought one, but got a primary arms copy instead. Feel free to join the party. |

Either way, you want a company that will stand behind their products. |
| don't know if your interested or not but I have a 9x24x50mm. but its on a .243 though. I still haven't played a lot with my ar. for some reason I just cant get excited to shoot it nowadays. it might not help I was one of the retards that rushed out and bought one with out doing a little research first. I not to happy with the bushmaster carbine I bought plus the red dot that comes with it is junk and won't ever stay tight |

How does one even become a member of the Ikes?
A few years ago I tried to become a member here in Mahaska county. I met the guy out there and had a good talk with him. Helped him unload some stuff from his truck for the high school shooting team practice that was later that day. He said send in the form with payment and he would get me in. I asked if I needed to be at the next meeting and he said no he would talk to them about me and get me in. About a month later I got a hand written letter that said ...your membership is denied...that is literally all it had on the paper. I don't have a criminal record other than a ton of traffic tickets from my younger days. I'm now 39 and haven't had a ticket in over 5 years. I'm not really interested now because I have access to a 600 yard range, but I'm curious since I didn't really get an explanation. |

They are all different. Some are better than others. Ankeny Ikes you just do it online and they send you an email instantly. They used to have the gate code in the email but now you have to pick up the card.
I'm not in it for the Ikes club, it's fun to see the shotgunners clash with the rifle/pistol guys at the meetings though. |

I'm not in it for the Ikes club, it's fun to see the shotgunners clash with the rifle/pistol guys at the meetings though. Here they have a board or something that has to vote you in. I was just curious if they had some criteria or if it was more of a who you know type of deal. I get the impression it's a select club and if you aren't friends with the right people you aren't getting in. On the topic of optics...I'm in Oskaloosa so a little bit of a trip for you, but I really really like my eotech exps3 with an eotech flip to side magnifier. I'm not so sure it's worth what I paid for it, but it definitely is a nice setup. I do see the magnifiers for sale on the exchange here a lot for way cheaper than if you were to buy it new. It's a very versatile setup. Great for close quarters and with a quick flip you are good for longer range. I have the single dot with the circle. |

An off note my brother in law just got a member ship to the Ankeny Ikes and I have been trying to get him to go. While $166 a calendar year seems high I can assure you I spent more than that last year on range fees. Which lead to less range time once I figured out how much I was spending. I think $166 would be a steal for me if the range is decent and not further than I drive now. |

Yep, sounds like a little more scope than I need right now.
The plan is to meet at the Kum&Go off of the 1st Street exit in Ankeny at 1:00 Saturday. Then we can all go through the gate at once in case it's not open for the trap shoot. It's only about 5 min away from there. Come one, come all. |

I couldn't pass it up. its might not be as good as night force and some of the other big names but for the price it does more then I expected it would do. |

We're meeting up 5 miles away, I'd guess we should roll in by 1:10ish. There's a good chance the gate will be open anyway. Should be a good range day. sounds good if everything goes good I'll show up there around that time. I have a newer black and tan chevy. |

No range fees, they have target stands and cardboard, you supply targets. I am allowed to bring guests to see the range, so when you see how awesome it is, you buy a membership. so are we able to shoot then or just hang out? It would have to be pretty nice to get me to become a member sense my mother-in-law has a 100 acre timber behind there house where I can shoot what ever I what and do what I want out there. like tannirite. |
