Not only did I get to hunt the Pheasant opener this year in an area with a lot of wild birds, but this guy was along for the trip;

Senator Ted Cruz was the special guest of Congressman Steve King for the Annual Col. Bud Day Memorial Pheasant Hunt. It is an honor to be among the guests at this annual event. Both Rep. King and Sen. Cruz can be counted on to always defend our Second Amendment rights. You can tell a lot about a man by how he handles a gun, I have no concerns about Senator Cruz's character.

Yes, it was a big group, almost thirty hunters. We shot close to 60 birds  I limited out in the first hour and backed the other guys up shooting a total of six myself. Good area of 1200 acres of CRP on the Hole in the Wall Lodge properties. All wild birds in this area, we were five miles north of their preserve grounds.

Cool!  With bird numbers down, it's nice to know they are around somewhere.  My brother in law has 70 acres south of Indianola, mostly pasture, that I'm going to hunt this weekend.  Don't expect to see anything, but it will still be worth the trip.

Always worth the trip! I think the 800 pound gorilla in the room is not any reduction in pheasant habitat but instead is the unchecked increase in predators. Whether it is raptor birds, no longer widely trapped raccoons or the most destructive of them all, feral cats. Everywhere I see birds in abundance, the landowners are shooting every feral cat they see.
