| My FIL wants me to go to the DNR auction to help him pick out some shotguns. I've never been to one before so I'm not sure what to expect. I did some research on the values of what he's interested in so I've got a ballpark figure on what would be a good price but what else do I need to know going in to this? |

Got all the paperwork covered. Kind of concerned all we're going to find is beat up wares for almost new prices. Pretty much this. I've only been to one, but most were Remington 870's and the like that belonged to poachers. Usually pretty well beat up. Also an assortment of hunting caliber bolt action rifles that went for NIB prices, if not higher. Keep in mind you will have to pay an auction fee (8%?) on TOP of your winning bid. I picked up an Anschutz for a fair price since most people either didn't want it or didn't know what it was, but that was all I was willing to bid on. Everything else was nuts....and that was 3 or 4 years ago. |
| Well it turned out to be pretty much what I expected. Lots of hunting guns that went for pretty high prices. Everything was pretty high. Several beat up Mosins went for $250+. Every .22 went for about the same. Did manage to pick up a Winchester 1300 with a rifled barrel for $300. Not the best deal but not too bad I suppose. Unless the sales tax they collected was secretly the auction fee then there wasn't anything else tacked on. |
