Another Guy we should stand behind at election time. Here's his response to my question about his stand on HF535.

Thank you for taking a moment to contact me about HF 535. This bill was assigned to subcommittee in the Senate, which is composed of two Democrats and one Republican. I’m the Republican assigned to the sub-committee.

As the most pro-gun senator in the Iowa Senate, it’s my pleasure to support this bill throughout it’s entire process. I’ll vote yes for it in sub-committee, committee and on final passage on the floor.

I think that these organizations publishing the names and addresses of those who wish to avail themselves to their God-given right to self-defense is a disgrace, but more importantly an invasion of privacy.

I’ve been working closely since I was first elected in 2008 to the Iowa legislature with several gun organizations in the Iowa to change the dynamic and climate for 2nd Amendment legislation in Iowa. Throughout these couple of years we’ve seen a dynamic shift from what was the norm to the conversations we are having now.

I believe that the 2nd Amendment was written as an acknowledgement that governments can become tyrannical, but an armed populace can effectively resist that tyranny.

During both of my campaigns, I’ve never made it a secret that I’m pro-gun. As the author of Constitutional Carry, Stand Your Ground, Firearms Freedom Act and numerous other pro-gun pieces of legislation, I’m happy to not only have campaigned for the 2nd Amendment during campaign season but to also come up here to the capitol and actually do what I said I would do.

Too many times people say things during the election season that they believe will enable them to get elected. The problem is, most politicians have acute memory loss, principle loss or conviction loss, and the moment their rear end hits the chair up here at the capitol, they forget entirely that they have an obligation to their constituents to fight for those campaign promises.

I’m not one of those people. I’ve been honored to fight tooth and nail for the 2nd Amendment since the moment I took my oath.

I’m in full favor of HF 535, and I’ll do my part to make sure it passes out of the Iowa Senate.

Sincerely,

State Senator Kent Sorenson
