Just saw this posted on another forum.  Thought it was important enough to do a first ever post after lurking for a few years.

I haven't been out there for at least a year or better.

This range is northeast of Cedar Rapids and west of Anamosa.

Matsell Bridge Range Closure

Anyone out there know anything more on this?

Did a google and bing search with no luck.

Thanks.

From what I've been heard but haven't confirmed is people or someone shot up one of the structures and it's cause them to shutdown the range till repairs are completed whenever that will be.

been there a few times.  a really great range by the way...  hope the closure is temporary...

also, whoever shot it up is a moron...

Matsell is typically my fall back range to go to if I'm not up to date on my range dues.
According to the Linn County Parks Dept. the closure is related to bullets leaving the range.
There are many morons that can't seem to keep it on at the big ass berm.
They have had issues with this in the past and they continue to.

I hate to say it, but I suspect the range will eventually be shut down due to this.

I think they will most likely enforce their rules more, go back to having a minimum target distance. That did a lot to help reduce people shooting up close and bouncing rounds over the berm. The mounds they built already removed your ability to shoot prone. One thing I sure hope they don't do is build one of those overhanging roofs that require you to sit and won't let your muzzle put upward at all. Essentially making it a bench rest range.

well I went to the blackhawk range last week since I couldn't go to matsell.

the target against the berm only rule is annoying, but I suppose it probably works...
