I hunted for a half of Sat. I wasn't even going to go at all, but my dad got done with the harvest early and decided to go. This was the first time in 4yrs he's been hunting so I went too. We had 7 guys in our group and by the time I left at 12:30 we had 10 birds in the bag, two lost, and a couple missed. We actually saw more than I expected to, but not anywhere near like it was a few years ago. I probably won't even go anymore this year, pheasant hunting just doesn't trip my trigger like it used too and the low bird count doesn't help any.

We saw two hens and two roosters, missed a rooster and got one. There was still corn around the fields we were hunting so I'm sure they will be better latter. I've been going to the hunting club for a month anyway.

Couple friends went out.  One saw nothing.  Other saw a couple but they were too far away.  Both have absolutely killer dogs so if they didn't have any luck there was none to be had, at least in central Iowa.  I skipped it.  Waiting to hit the preserve, probably after the first of the year.  Weekends getting booked up.

Article in the Sunday Register was pretty dismal.

After hunting upland Saturday with dismal results, I hunted waterfowl Sunday morning. I came home with one wood duck, but I hunt a pretty duck poor area and missed a few times.

Saturday I didn't even see a rooster pheasant to dirty the barrels with. (South-central Iowa)

I've been hunting waterfowl instead of pheasant for the last couple years now. During the overlap, I usually wear orange under my camo, and pheasant hunt back to my car if I hear anything cackling while I'm shooting ducks before pheasant hours open. I get MAYBE one dedicated pheasant hunt a year nowadays with the low population. I still say now that pheasant numbers are low it's a good time to try a medium to large scale reintroduction program for prairie chickens. With so much less introduced birds maybe we can get back some native birds. I enjoy pheasant hunting as much as anyone else, but we've all got to admit that they're an introduced species that if someone tried releasing into new areas today that person would probably be arrested.
