My signal construction gang has been "Re-tasked" to Mo. Valley to help with "Flood relief" IE build sandbag dike's We have been told it could be sixty days on session without a day off Uncle Sam will really love killing my overtime |
Figured I would get about 30 or so Half full kegs of Sam Adams and that would be plenty of buoyancy and if it wasn't well, I could make it work Rig it all up and get some nice Iowa girls, the ones down South are nice enough, but can be lacking in teeth, and set sail down the Missouri. Somewhere Trout would make like his relatives, while faking his death. |

Well im not a scrawny crack-ho...but I can be the wife And keystone is always smooth Keystone ICE, dude.... ICE! It'll punch you right in the baby-maker. But seriously, thanks for your NG serviice. I'm glad you're being used for your intended purpose, to save American lives from domestic/natural disasters and not being sent to Iraq. |

I see you have no idea what the National Guards stated mission is ![]() |

Quoted: Nope, but I have an opinion on what they SHOULD be used for. I try to use strictly opinion and rumor to base my internet arguments on. Using facts is far too boring. Yup, they should be used to engage and destroy the enemies of our nation in close combat, by supplementing the active component. Just like they were founded to do and just like the militia did prior. IDK why you would think the guard's mission should building dikes, instead of being soldiers like they signed up to be and are. Can they be a great help in a natural disaster, yup you bet and for the most part they are happy to do it. To think that is or should be their priority mission is frankly assine, bordering on complete negligence if it is the opinion of an elected offical. Opinions like that gets people killed and maimed for life. Not to even mention the insane waste of money and time, to train the individuals to be soldiers and equip them? Do you have any idea how much it takes to maintain a heavy mech BDE per year? Here's a hint its in the millions. To say you only cover ND. ![]() It might surprise you, that not long ago the National Guard was viewed as responders to natural disasters and as such really only fulfilled combat support jobs and were equipped with cast offs. Training was minor and leadership was questionable. Following the turmoil of the Vietnam War, while the Active component was transitioning to an all volunteer force, the Brass was concerned that the American public would not care or notice if the active component was engaged in a long bloody struggle with no political ends, because they were professional there by choice. Remember the Active Component is far younger and lives mostly secluded lives on Federal Reservations in the middle of BFE. The most contact the public has with them is when the joes invade the bars on the weekend, if they are even stationed conus. It was feared that this would cause the politicians to be much more willing to use force if there was little public backlash, because little jimmy would no longer be drafted to fight a war. So what did the generals do? The integrated the National Guard in the Army's needs, there are many needed skills that can only be filled by reserve and guard soldiers. Now instead of supplementing, the Guard is integral to any war effort. So now when the nation goes to war, you're friends and neighbors do to, not just the guy you knew in high school that moved away 15 years ago. If you think the need for service during natural disasters is not to spec, maybe it should be handled in a different manner. Contact your reps and have them organize a different institution. The Guard is and has historically been a war fighting institution first and foremost. Or maybe their urban ops deployment training in a small Iowa town is preparations for coming martial law ![]() |

The Guard is and has historically been a war fighting institution first and foremost. For the state, not Feds. When I was in, I understood that whatever the state of Iowa wanted from us was what we needed to do. Otherwise you nailed the scope of the National Guard. |

Is there a smilie of a guy looking around whistling and kicking rocks? Howdy, buddy! Did you here the Missouri is rising? When are they going to put you on the planes to come back and do your "actual" mission? Oh man, it smells like updog in here.... I've read about that on the internets, and I wouldn't care one bit if we went home to fill sandbags. I would hope you would be running beer to us if we did. |
| I've never done a peace-time mission in the 18+ years I've been in the Air Force or Air Guard...I've always been overseas whenever a state-side emergency came up. I don't mind going overseas and there hasn't been a tour to SW Asia that I haven't volunteered for and usually stay an extended period of time with other units. |

We have sandbagged a few locations but,for the most part we have been raising the crossing gates and the cabin that holds the equipment
back up to track level and some places they raised track level six feet Lots of shovel work going on,and we haven't even seen water yet |
I'll have to get a copy of Huck Fin and do me some learnin.
