Seeing as how romper seems to no longer care to hear our discussions every month I guess I will do this one...

Just a simple topic on weapon of choice for carry/holster. And a brief explanation why you choose the set up you have.

I carry a sig 229 in a in the waist band holster ( one of those fancy kydex leather ones)

I will explain more and try to get the discussion going more when I get off work

Most times a Smith 638 in a Don Hume belt slide or my front pocket.  It's simple.

Occasionally carry other stuff:  Glock 17, SIG 228, 1911, Smith 64 3 inch, Smith M&P 9.

H&K HK45 or XDm 40 or Walther P99 .40  fobus Holster.

If need have a lower profile then I'll carry my Walther PPS 9mm

I usually carry a Glock 31C in .357SIG at the waist with a polymer molded paddle holster just to the right of my right rear pocket.  On occasion I also carry a nylon dual mag pouch just to the left of my left rear pocket.

In lighter clothing weather I carry a MP9mm in a leather belt holster.

My main carry piece is a Kahr P45 in a Crossbreed SuperTuck holster.

No worries about the polymer/SS pistol, the leather is super comfortable for all-day wear and the kydex makes for firm, easy draw. Couldn't be happier with either.

Glock 33 in 357SIG with a Crossbread holster. Very comfortable.

I have on occasion in winter carried on .50AE Desert Eagle in a shoulder rig on the arm.....just for fun really to see if I could essentially hide something that big or if it would at all become uncomfortable over the course of a normal day.  I am a bigger guy and it didnt get all that bad really...but I wouldnt do it everyday

XDM 9 in a crossbreed supertuck. With over a thousand rounds down range I have not had one problem with the weapon.

I think I'm going to have to add an XDM 9 to the collection. Would like something inbetween the all-steel CZ75 SP01 and the Glock 34 for my 9mm lineup.

I take it you're pretty satisfied with it?

My setup is almost identical; XDM 9 in a Kholster.

Depending on what the situation is I carry one of my M&P's. I was carrying either my .40 or my .45 full size handguns but recently bought an M&P .45C. With warmer weather coming on I am carrying that more and more. I carry all 3 in either a SuperTuck or a cheap Bianchi IWB. The SuperTuck where I will be carrying for longer periods because it is more comfortable with the added bonus of being tuckable and the Bianchi when I will just be carrying short term, plus it is easier to just clip on but it isn't tuckable, I have been eying a couple different ones that are tuckable. It doesn't ride as well and isn't as comfortable but isn't bad short term. One nice thing about having a trio of M&P's is that both holsters fit all three so different holsters aren't needed.

HK 2Ksk .40 in a Crossbreed Supertuck (Horsehide) at 4:00.

First carry piece, it started in a Galco rig, but the tuck is more stable.

I prefer my Gen 4 G 19 or G 36 IWB with a MTAC Minotaur.  They are both about the same size and will fit in the same holster.  If I am on the Harley I use an ankle holster with a thumb break.  The wife doesn't like the pistol jabbing her in the leg on the bike.  I could tell her to suck it up but I like to eat and have clean clothes

Most of the time SR9c, IWB.  If it needs to be smaller, then LCP.  Love my Rugers, and prefer striker vs. DA.

Alot of 9mm in here... whats your reasoning for selecting the Caliber you carry?

95% of my time shooting handguns has always been 9mm, so its a very familiar round and im comfortable with it. It may not pack as hard of a punch as a 45 or 40, but 14 rounds plus a spare mag i think i will have it covered. plus being cheaper to shoot means i can run alot more rounds threw my gun and get the practice needed.

How do you guys feel about carrying revolvers? 5/6 rounds, i can think of scenarios where that wouldn't cover ya on a Monday morning.

What condition do you carry? this should mostly depend on your gun, but does anyone carry condition 3 (chamber empty, hammer down)?

Gen 4 Glock 19 in Tucker Gunleather or Romper kydex holster.

After participating in ammo tests with ATK, it was shown that 9mm, .40, and .45 in speer Gold dot all perform the same.  It was also shown that if you are carrying anything but bonded ammo, you are setting yourself up for failure.  Hydrashock, Ranger, etc were all worthless through auto glass.  I went with 9mm for the ease of follow up shots and the highest magazine capacity.

My G 19 is 15+1 capacity.  The G36 is the exact same size and only 6+1.  When I cannot stash an extra magazine in a pocket I go with the larger capacity magazines.  You never know when you might need the extra rounds.

Beretta Cougar 8045 in a Kholster. Still need to find a double mag pouch for my spare mags, six +1 seems slim on ammo to me. I love the ease in which in can be drawn from the kydex and the leather is quite comfortable in the weather that I have carried in so far. Well see how this summer goes.

Do you have any pictures or other reference material for this? I have always wondered if anyone had ever done formal testing on any of the common ammo carried. I have Ranger riding in the beretta now, but have been wondering about Gold Dots. Was this ammo off the shelf? Just looking to make the best possible deceision on carry ammo.

We thoroughly documented the testing(weighed, measured, and photographed the rounds after removal from ballistic gel)but all of the info went with ATK.  We shot through clothing, drywall, auto glass, etc.  Gold Dot was far and away the best performer in rifle and pistol ammo.

I carry the 9mm because of capacity.  I figure if 17rds wont do it then I really need to be looking for an exit strategy.  My MP I carry in condition 3 because it has no manual safety and while i love the gun I dont like that feature.  My Glock 31C i carry in the same way, its 15+1 of .357SIG so its got capacity too.

I think a wheel gun would make a good backup piece in an ankle holster but as a GoTo piece its just not for me.  Not enough capacity if the situation ever warranted it and reloads can take extra crucial seconds.

I don't like the width of a wheel gun for an IWB carry. That's all. They're also slow to reload without practice and some moon clips or a speed reloader, which are bulky to carry.

I carry a .45, but my bed gun is a 9mm. I think the .45 is more of a mental comfort than anything for me.

9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP............ they all have pretty much the same ability to stop a threat. For every story of " it took so and so 14 rounds of 9mm to stop a threat!", you can find just as many stories of someone using a .40 or .45 etc. taking just as many or more rounds to stop a threat. If you eliminate "stopping power" as a criteria for choosing a caliber, it leaves two factors to choose from; ease of firing multiple rounds quickly and magazine capacity, 9 mm clearly wins in those two catergories. The icing on the cake is the fact that 9mm practice ammo is is almost always cheaper. Don't discount this fact because regular training and practice is far more important than caliber choice.

Ok, I can play for a bit....can't start making holsters because the little romper is sleeping.

Off duty rig.....usually Glock 35 with TLR-1 light in one of my belt slide holsters......warmer weather it would be a Glock 23 in a Tucker IWB holster, I might add quite comfortable and THE ONLY setup I use that doesn't have a light attached.  Ammo, at least one extra mag (all my mags have Arindondo +5 extension) so 20 rounds per mag of Gold Dot bonded 40 cal.
Off duty long gun, and yes.....I usually have one within reach, LMT 14.5" with pinned longer flash hider, Aimpoint Mirco T-1, MBUS backups, Surefire 600C Scout (custom mounted), AFG, and Magpul furniture and sling.

Why do I carry what I do.......because I can, that is why  I like the 40 because I have put many, many rounds down range with it and I believe firmly in familiarity, I also like the 40 round because it is the best of both worlds between 9mm and 45 ACP.  I like a full size handgun because if I need to use it it will fit my hand under stress (something I think a lot of folks forget about over consealability and comfort) is the fact that some day God forbid you may need to use it.
As far as the rifle, well I know how to use one, and if there is going to be a fight I am either going to win or at the very least make them wish they had never started shit with me.

I completely agree with you romp on the full sized handgun. I have shot a few of the micro pistols aimed at CCW and, for the most part, they all sacrifice usability to get them to a very small size. The worst pistol that I have ever shot is the ruger LCP. The trigger has over an inch of pull and is gritty and once fired it almost feels like you are going to rip the mag out of the mag-well.

When it comes to the debate of full size guns versus mouse guns I think Clint Smith says it best; "It's a big gun when I put it on and it's a big gun when I pull it out", obviously the inverse is equally true. Everyone has to make their own choice but I choose to take the steps necessary to conceal a full size pistol and 39 rounds of ammo. A good belt and holster are the key.

Unmodified G17 Gen4 except for 10-8 sights. Competition or Carry. So far I have put 1000 rounds of reloaded 130 PF ammo and 50 of Speer Gold Dot through it and it has never had a failure. I don't get as much opportunity to carry as most because it is a no go at my workplace, even in the parking lot.

ETA: Forgot the holster part. When I carry or shoot IDPA, the G17 goes in a Comptac MTAC which is IWB. When I shoot USPSA or am just plinking, I use a Safariland 5187 which is OWB. I think my setup is pretty reasonable. I subscribe to the "Look out for the guy with one gun, he knows how to use it" mentality. Pistol-Training calls it SIMP. If my employer ever loosens the restriction on carry I'm going sell my G17 and get a G19 and a G34 and leave everything stock except for the sights. Then I'll use the G19 for Carry and IDPA and the G34 for USPSA and HD but they'll both have about the same trigger, and the difference in grip length won't affect my small hands.

I;ll pitch in.

For me it depends on a lot of factors, mostly the environment I'll be running around in and such, Typically i prefer to carry either a M&P in 9mm or 45 in either a Kaluban cloak kydex light rig if I am able to be dressed such that I can carry OWB, or occasionally I will carry one of them in a modified CTAC IWB without light. I might also swap out a commander length 1911 also with a light in a Romper rig if the mood strikes me.   As a side note my 1911s and M&Ps are set up nearly identical including manual safeties, lights, etc so it's what I am familiar with.

If I am needing a somewhat smaller gun I run a walther PPS, in another tuckable kydex rig.   If I can ever find one of the micro laxermax lasers, it too will pobably end up in a Romper rig.

My preferred carry for personal protection used to be Romper, piggy back style.  Then my back and knees gave out so now it's a G17 in a Serpa CQC and an extra mag.  Fodder for social work is Gold Dot, 147 GRN GDHP.

Ah the old days, back when I didn't have to worry about running....because you did that for me.  All I had to do was ride around, look menacing, and growl at folks on occasion.  Now I need to add pluckiness to the mix.....
