Looking to join a new range longer than 100 yards.

Can I show up anytime, except scheduled planned events, and shoot any range at the DM Rifle and Pistol Club in Van Meter?

I took it from their site that only certain ranges are open at a given time.

I've also heard that there is a separate pistol, separate 100 yard, and separate long-range ranges.  Is this true?

Thanks,

Steve

Indian Creek Ikes if you're still at ISU.

300 yard rifle range w/ perm. gongs, pistol range. On a nice, sunny Saturday afternoon you MIGHT see one other person there. They also hold sporting clays shoots, have a trap range, and a pistol range.

Kind of hard to beat for the price. Oh, and you can go anytime you want... and no neighbors to piss off.

Not at ISU anymore, but in Des Moines.  I thought Ames Ikes was only 200 yards.

This is not Ames Ikes, it's Indian Creek Ikes

It's SE of Nevada and is AWESOME. Used to shoot Sporting Clays tourneys there and eventually joined for the 300 yard range w/ gongs.... Only to find out I suck at it

Can't help ya. My freshman year I stored them at  a good buddy's place off campus and the next year moved off campus myself. All my shooting buddies have since graduated, so I can't even help you there. There were rumors that Jax would store them for a fee, but let's not touch that with a 10 foot pole.

The Ames Ikes used to store guns for the ISU Trap and Skeet team, but someone damn near tore a wall of the building down and got into the safe. Talk to Lt. VanRyswyk (sp). He works for ISU PD and is/was also the sponsor for the ISU rifle and pistol club. That's the best resource I can give you.

Umm.... they're what you would call 'very basic'

Basically anything you can find on Google. No website. I only joined by way of talking to their president while at one of the sporting clays shoots.

After you join Van meter, you get a key and can pretty much use it whenever you want.  There are some long range and rimfire matches in the summer put you can get those dates after you join.  The main range is 200-600 yds for centerfire rifle and a separate 100 yd range for centerfire rifle.  There is also a separate pistol range that is 0-25yds and a 50-100 yd rimfire range.

I think member ship is $100 now (annual) with a $50 (one time) initiation fee (not positive on those numbers).  After you join you have to go through an orientation that will take about an hour and you are required to show proof of NRA membership.

I check this site about every other day.  If you PM me, I can send you a phone number of the president who can get things started for you.
