| I've done some research here & abroad, but I'm having troubles deciding on something....EO Tech? or Aimpoint? Which model?I've read the optics pages here, but for the most part its just a bunch of fanboys rattling on & on. I'm looking for some insight from you guys here on my home turf. I read this forum several times a week & trust your opinions. ( I don't post much since I really don't know much so I just keep quiet LOL) It's going to go on a flat top S&W AR with Iron fronts & a flip up rear. I do plan on putting a magnifier on it also. I've thought about an ACOG, but I think I'd prefer having the flexibility of going either magnified or not with just a quick flip. What are you guys opinion? What works well & what doesn't? I'd like to end up with an absolute co-witness, but its not a necessity. Any help here would be much appreciated! |

I think it boils down to what your comfortable looking through. I personally like just having the dot, but I've also heard the EoTechs are supposedly faster. I have an ACOG also and like that better than my Aimpoint. If you go Aimpoint I would go with a 2 MOA dot. It's nice to be able to dial it down for going to the range.
Comes down to personal preference. One thing I have seen is that buying used can also be good. People seem to change their mind a lot when it comes to optics. Some times you can find a smoking deal. |

Its all about what your use is, Ecotech is a great optic for room clearing and within 200m. A Compact Trijcon are great too, for some close quarters and a little longer range. I had booth, sold my compact tri and got a ecotech after my oic gave me his points on it.
more welcome to check out a ecotech mounted on an ar 15 and shoot with it on if your aroudn des moiens are pm me, and we can set shoot up at Buches or Banner. |

Can't stress enough how much I recommend EOTech over AimPoint. My experience with the M68 has been less than excellent.
EOTech makes a solid bit of kit. That's just my not-so humble opinion though, try your options out if you can and pick what works best for your application. |
| I have ACOG TA31F-G and wouldn't trade it for anything else. It's more like advanced iron sight than optic. And very durable too, dropped the rifle from the bench, landed on the scope on concrete - just a small mark. I wish I have a perfect vision, kind of hard on older eyes. I use it with both eyes open all the time, just like Trijicon recommends. |

i've got them all. i actually prefer the eotech myself. i've always liked the view, and the set up. i'm none too fond of battery life, but most folks can pick up AA batts at a gas station, so it isn't a big deal. the aimpoint is fine and the battery life is forever... however, i prefer the 65 moa circle and dot scenario the eotech offers over the common aimpoint dot. the acog i run is heavy as hell but it is a darn tough unit.
if i were you and could wait a bit, i'd come to one of these shoots at my place or other places and try some on in action. we all have this stuff. for that matter, if you have a carbine or whatever you want to mount one on, you could snag any of mine and bolt on your rig and you'd have the benefit of trying it on your own weapon prior to deciding. just an offer. if i were choosing only one i'd run the eotech, but any you choose in these three will serve you well. hope this helps. |
| So, it sounds like the EO tech is the way to go....good thing I asked!!! I had kind of been leaning towards the aimpoint myself. Does anyone know anything about the EOtech that has the reticle that is calibrated to the 5.56? worth while? or gimmick? Septic, thank you for the invite, I'd love to try & make it over for a shoot sometime, I just wish you lived closer to Sioux City! Maybe this summer sometime I'll have to make a road trip.... |
| the truth is, it's not a question of which one is better. It's a question of which one suits YOU. Myself personally, I went with a single 4moa dot, but now that I have it I wish I went with 2moa. It's a Vortex Strikefire, similar to the Aimpoint. I'll never put a red dot through anything more than this $150 vortex can handle. But I like a single dot. For myself, I find a single dot faster to acquire, rather than a larger circle with a small dot. |
| Thank you everyone for your input!! After weighing the pro's & cons of each, I've decided to go with the EO tech 557-223 with magnifier on the FTS base. Is it the right choice? I can't say yet, only time will tell. Is it more scope than I will ever need or be able to push to its limits? Probably most definitely. I've got a local LE outfitter that is ordering it in for me & the down payment has been made so there's no looking back now! I figure if nothing else, if I don't like it for some reason, I can probably talk one of you into taking it off my hands for me. LOL Thanks again, the help is much appreciated... |

E0tech brand magnifiers are PRICEY! You got that right!!! But, I wanted one top notch set up on at least one of my rifles. When I can, I try to buy the best I can afford, & i've been pinching my pennies for a while saving up for something good, so we'll see how it works out! |
