I got a Brownells pistol kit from ron at the gunshow Sunday and I want to make sure i put her together right before I go out to the range. Here some pics, the instruction where not the best as I couldn't see the part in-question.

Thanks for lookign and stay safe, GB

I just installed the same kit on a carbine for CharlyArmy.   You are correct about the installation instructions.......they are total CRAP!   The kit itself looks to be very simple and robust.   I hope the barrel shims you got with the kit were the correct size.   The ones in CA's kit were not.   Seeing as how he is an accomplished tool and die maker fabricating the correct shims were no problem for him.   After that little set back everything went together just fine.

From the pics it appears that you have installed the kit correctly.   Just make sure the piston and rod move freely without rubbing on anything after everything is torqued down.   Did you have to use a spacer on the drive rod to get the bolt carrier to index correctly?   IMO the finish on the piston was a little rough and may need to be polished.

I assume a range fire report will follow?   I don't think CA has test fired his yet so I'm anxious to hear how these kits work.

That's just a piece of shim stock.   Add it to your collection.

Contrary to what many on these forums believe.....it is impossible to diagnose malfunctions over the internet.   Double check the following and then we can go from there:

1. Make sure the short gas tube is installed correctly.....it can be installed upside down.
2. Make sure the the gas tube retaining pin is installed so it can't slip forward.
3. Make sure the gas rings have been removed from the bolt.
4. Make sure the gas piston moves FREELY.   I still think the piston has a rough finish.
5. Make sure the push rod moves FREELY through the barrel nut and upper receiver hole.

If those don't work I will try to get together with you and work on getting getting it running.
