Here's the situation:
I live in Ames while in school and I am originally from Cedar Rapids. My DL is my address in CR because that is where all my mail is sent (parents house) and I will not be in Ames beyond this August. I purchased a pistol at Scheels this past weekend and they are holding it for me until I get my purchase permit renewed (Linn county one expired this past July). Will the Story County Sheriff grant me a purchase permit if I have Utility Bills in my name with a Story County address even though my DL has a Linn County address? If not, I'll either have to take a day off work to go back to Linn County, or get my DL changed to Story County, which would be counter intuitive because its not technically my "permanent" address. Thanks for the insight...I never should have let it lapse in the first place.

I have no Idea. I think your best bet would be to call them and find out.
Here is the website Story County Sheriff's office Here is the sheriff's number 515-382-6566 |

Quoted:
Your permit should match your driver's license. It will avoid any grief from your FFL. Doesn't have to be. As long as your DL is correct your fine. I've been in the situation where DL and permit didn't match. I had no trouble as long as the DL was correct. As far as Story County goes, call them. They've always been quite friendly and helpful whenever I needed info. My guess is, you're going to have to go to CR to get your permit renewed. |

Just got off the phone with them. The lady I spoke to said if my drivers license had my "permanent" address on it I could still obtain a Story County purchase permit if I had valid utilities in my name proving residency.
Most excellent! In case anyone cared, I bought a Kahr CW9. |
