Is there any way to tell if semi-auto pistol used to shot handloads? Not the hot loads, just up to standard velocity (pressure).
TIA! |
| As a rule i shoot almost entirely handloads. I seldom buy factory. IMHO a handload correctly assembled is no more dangerous and usually more accurate when the right load is found. I have handloaded for about 25 yrs. and have seen no ill effects from good handloads to any firearm be it handgun, rifle or shotgun. I don't even ask if handloads have been run through a firearm if I buy it used. If it is in sound condition it is a moot point. |

Perhaps I should ask it like this: should I be concerned about handloads (except for possible warranty claims in the future)? i've run into the occasional douche that really likes to brag about how hot his handloads are... those are the guys i distance myself from. firstly, if they really are that hot they're dumb. secondly, if they really do it as often as they claim, they'll eventually have something blow up... that usually quiets them in a hurry. i would say these types fall into the bottom 10% of handloaders and probably even fewer than that. if you aren't seeing signs of wear or over pressure indicators, you're ok more than likely. i usually inspect the arm for all these signs, and don't worry about what was the cause. if there are signs of issue or misuse, i pass. otherwise you're usually ok. besides, if i had a warranty issue i wouldn't make it a habit of offering up all kinds of reason to deny my warranty claim... usually, being clueless and letting those guys do what they do best is the way to go... |
