What would be the legality of this? cothrom and I were discussing this at work. I beleve its a class 3 because of the short barrel of the shotgun. But since there is no technical stock on it I could see a "pistol" designation that would make it legal. We are talking about the 12 gauge not the grenade launcher.

Smooth bore pistols would be a class 3 item,  also if it was ever a "longgun" then it can't be make into  a pistol.  If I remember correctly  any rifled bore has to have  a 50 cal or less bore size even if you had a rifled shotgun bbl.

hope this help  jr

Yep, mutliple projectiles + smooth bore + pistol = Class 3

Also, once it's attached to your AR, it DOES have a stock, making it a SBS.

Why the hell would you want an 870 bolted to your AR anyways?

Well we were just thinking that it looks pretty cool, and it would be fun to play with.

I suppose, but it seems unweildy and you have an extremely limited ammo supply. I would think unless you trained your ass off with it, in CQB, 2 triggers = bad news.

They would have to permanently attach it with a barrel longer than 16"
