Does anyone have any information about the Van Meter range?  Specifically, how to become a member and the cost?  I have heard you have to be recommended by a current member to be able to join?  Also, is it a busy place with most weekends full of shooting events or most of the time can a person expect to get a couple of hours of decent range time?

Overall I am looking for a decent place to shoot where I don't have to drive too far (live in Adel) and I would like to pay a yearly fee vs the hourly rate at the DNR ranges.

Any input would be welcome.  Thanks.

get a hold of TRON0129 as i think he's a member out there now at van meter.

also, you might consider heading straight north to Bays Branch as the DNR range there runs to 300 and is free.

neither one is too far from you.

hope this helps.

Not a member but have shot there a number of times.  Beautiful facility, but they do tend to run a lot of matches out there.

If you're not a member, how is it you are able to go shooting out there?  I assume you must know someone out there and go with them as a guest?  I am still trying to understand how a person becomes a member out there so I can do some shooting.  Price and availablity of the range is not a huge concern, the location is what I am looking for.

Any info would be greatly appreciated by anyone who has knowledge of the range, thanks in advance.

Matches are open to all, don't need to be a member for that.  The matches I go to, or did, were NRA Hi Power and CMP Service rifle.  I know they have a pistol range, I assume they run matches there as well.

You might try the Iowa High Power website, there may be some contact information there.

I used to live in Adel and now Winterset.  Join the Dallas Ct. Sportsman Club.  It's very cheap to join and it is really well kept.  Late summer to winter they hold sporting clay shoots almost every weekend.

If you are interested let me know.  I'm good friends with most board members.
