If you didn't send in your entry last time, you missed out on about a 1 in 7 chance of winning one of six prizes. You didn't even need to shoot well to win- all you needed to do was send in a target with 10 holes. Prizes ranged from a $50 cleaning kit to a Manners stock. If you missed out last time, I suggest signing up for the next shoot now. www.smackthesmiley.com I am betting that Septic will be hosting another event at his place. However, even if you can't make it, you should send Jason $12 for the cause and have some fun plinking on your own time. Hope to see more of you play this time. More importantly, I hope to see more of you who play follow through and send in your targets. Lets get more of those fancy prizes sent to the IA HTF folks. Do it for the kids. |

ok, let's get this thing going. i'd ask your patience while i go through my schedule conflicts. don't get me wrong, anybody is welcome to shoot anywhere. however, if you plan on coming to my place, i need to be there. we have some timelines to adhere to...
so each person will need to order targets prior to the 15th. the following days are no good for me: sat 10-20 sat 11-10 sun 11-11 sat 11-17 sun 11-18 sat 11-24 sun 11-25 so basically nov 3 (sat) or 4 (sun) look pretty good. also the 27 (sat) and 28 (sun) in october. pheasant hunters will be in high gear, but we'll have to make do. the 21st of october is ok, but i'll be hung over... i usually shoot pretty well with a hang over though, so maybe that could work... lol. what do you guys think? looks like the last weekend in october or the first weekend in november are the best options. please respond here so everyone can see what the scoop is. -ST13 |

smack the smiley this is an informal competition for riflemen to compete at their own leisure and location. to discourage cheating the prizes are randomly drawn and the results posted from top to bottom. it is designed to test your skills in regards to grouping, CBS (cold bore shot), target selection strategy, and accuracy. you only need a handful of ammo per target, and the proceeds benefit americansnipers.org. in an effort to further the fun and bolster some support, i offered to host a "shoot" and have folks come over to my little range at my farm to participate. wifey was good enough to feed everyone, and some of us took turns fetching targets. we had a really good time, and a great turnout. in fact, our shooting group that day was the largest on record for STS and they were able to raist $1492. you can buy up to four targets for a centerfire rifle to fired at 100 yards, and up to four targets for a centerfire rifle to be fired at 50 yards. at $3 per target your minimum is $3 and maximum is $12 per class (centerfire or rimfire). $24 for both obviously. peruse through the STS website and it'll start to make some sense. you could send off for a target, follow the instructions, and do it yourself on your own time at your own range, or you're certainly welcome to come shoot some or all your targets at my place. you can then pick the best one of lot and send it in to Jason to be officially scored. again, this isn't about the best score, as the best score wins nothing else than top of the list. prizes ranging from free gunsmithing work to free stocks and paintjobs are given by drawing - no more, no less. the idea is participation and hopefully shooting improvement. we had folks shooting rigs from all over the spectrum. lever action iron sights to ultra grade high $$$ stuff wasn't uncommon. the rules are the same for everyone. i can't stress enough how much fun it was and low budget. we're not talking about a ton of money here. also, the conversation and relationships were worth every penny. if there is anyone considering it, you might as well hop off the fence and do it. all are welcome. if you need help getting set up, we can do that too. we had some guys come with a fresh scope and everyone chipped in to get them on target and ready to compete. we broke it up into flights so it would go quicker, but with pheasant season i'd imagine the group will be a little smaller last time. is this something you'd be interested in FORD? ETA ************ i'm glad you spoke up. you know how it is when you know a thing, but do a poor job of conveying that thing to others??? i'm guilty of that from time to time. if any of you have a question, type it! we'd be tickled to answer if we can. this is too much fun for all the right reasons to not give it a whirl. where else can you spend as little as $3 for a chance to win some neat stuff doing some shooting you'd have done anyway? |
