some people are scared off from shooting this venue thinking that it takes a bunch of high dollar equiptment. how wrong that is. below is a list of things that are needed. 1. Eye and Ear protection. shooting glasses/prescription glasses are all the more that are needed for the eyes, for ears, plugs will work, muffs are a bit more comfortable, i personally run electronic muffs so that range commands are not missed 2. pistol or revolver. there is a 9mm/38 special minimum size. the gun will fall into one of 5 classes. 3. magazines/speedoaders. it is allowable for pistol shooters to carry 2 extra magazines along with 1 in the gun. revolver shooters can carry 3 extra loads, plus the one in the gun. in idpa you dont need the high dollar high capacity magazines as there is a rule only allowing 10 rounds in the magazines. 4. Holster/ammo carrier. it must be something that you could use for daily carry. no tacticool thigh holster here. no small of the back, no crossdraw, no shoulder rigs. these are all for safety reasons as the matches and the range utilize a "180 rule" 5. cover garment. this can be a hooded sweatshirt, a loud buttoun up shirt.......anything you want really. i use a 5.11 vest when the weather is warmer. i like the pockets for stages that require "reload with retention". dont worry about the terminology right now, come out and shoot then you will get to see it first hand. 6. yourself ready to have a great amount of fun, in a safe enviroment, with like minded individuals. i have yet to meet anyone whom has not ha da good time shooting IDPA. i hope to see some new faces start to emerge. dont worry about the fact that you will be the new guy/gal(?), we all were new to this game at 1 time or another. 2nd sunday of every month is a match at the Ames Ikes. 4th saturday is the match at the Boone Sportsmans club. Polk City is also going to be holdign matches again this year. start time through the winter for boone and ames is 10 am, it is best to be there by about 930 to get signed in, look over the stages, talk to the other shooters. cost is $5 per gun(or division if you want to shoot the same gun in more than one class). i forgot to put ammo requirements above, but i would bring a minimum of 100 rounds per gun/division. most generally the matches have a minimum round count around 60-70, but sometimes a guy just loves to punch a few more holes. signing up for the yahoo newsgroup is the best way to keep up to date and informed. all the match info can be found there, as well as results from previous matches and pictures as well. hope to see some new faces tomorrow or in the future. if you do show up, look me up.......i think i am going to be shooting a revolver tomorrow, and who knows what else. bb |
i soaked up the rest. however, i'm not familiar with the "180" rule at all. can you expand on this? |
