Out of all the elk and deer draws my wife and I drew one tag, a flich08 "Any Whitetail" tag for 27B.

We have enough points to draw antelope.

Archery mule deer, whitetail archery East River, WR Any Whitetail, Antelope near the Badlands. Good times.

Are you guys paying attention to the second choice draw odds for whitetails? Some really nice tags with better than 50% draw odds while continuing to build points.

Coming home last deer season we saw a pile of nice whitetail bucks coming out of West River.  Been a good year for rain out there after a mild winter. Hoping to find a nice one.

Anybody been through Harding County in the last month or so? I'm headed up this weekend and wondering if they're as wet as some areas of the state.

Everywhere we have been is green. We haven't been up there, or down in Fall River. Anyone been down around Hot Springs?

Are you scouting for deer, AbleArcher?

I try and make it up once a year and hike around the short pines, cave hills, and slim buttes. That and get my yearly dose of uranium.

Nice. Never been but it sounds like a great area. We do the same over by Edgemont. Uranium, elk, steep hills. What more could a boy ask for.

If you've never been to Harding County make the time, it's worth it. The bridge isn't in Harding but you can make it be on the way.

Nice, AbleArcher. Where is that top picture? Is that Slim Buttes?

Did you see many archery hunters up there? Deer opened See 1 for the first time this weekend.

It's the Cave Hills, west and north of Slim Buttes.

Also if you visit Capital Rock and decide to take the trails back into South Dakota, you're going to discover that most of them don't exist anymore. Really made me appreciate my truck more

I saw one other person that entire day.

Only temporarily. They are doing a ton of work in that regard at the mine by Riley Pass. They've started removing all the sediment from the containment ponds they set up years ago to catch the runoff from the mine.

They're making a pretty good comeback after the die off a few years ago. It was all mulies though, and didn't see any wall hangers. Antelope are back too, so much so that I may have a hard choice next year.

I would like to try. Fall River is where we will be again this Fall.

Nope, I stick to rifle. I'll hopefully be down in Fall River for Antelope opener.

I used to rifle hunt up there.  First couple of years we never really saw anyone else, then about 10 years ago you couldn't go 100 yards without running into another hunter.  Beautiful area, I miss it.

So how is everyone feeling about Sutton being the next Gov? Noem is trying to ride her name, and it ain't gonna work imho.

I don't think so. She is skipping debates, missing votes in Washington, airing negative ads... none of which South Dakotans care for. She is trying to ride into office, and I think it will backfire.
I was recently in a small meeting with 14 other folks. I live West river, so kind of half farmers/ranchers half business/management type folks. We took a written vote just to see, turned out 7-8 Noem.

We'll see. I didn't think she'd beat Jack-ass-ley so handily.

I see very few Sutton signs but a lot of Noem signs. Only one way to find out and that's to wait until November.

Anybody here goose hunt? I’ve never done it but there are flocks all over the place here and I want to give it a shot. Can you jump shoot geese? I see guys pulling trailer fulls full of decoys. There are some state managed goose pits across the street. I’ll put in for the drawing and see what happens I guess.

Today is winterize everything with an engine except the daily drivers then off to hunt pheasants in the afternoon. Almost done unpacking! Hope everybody is staying warm. Looks like Sioux Falls got a foot of snow from this last storm. Nothing here in Pierre.

The pits are a good option. SDGFP has decoys to borrow. Probably best to find someone to go with.

Look around for a guide. Might find a good deal this late in the season.
