I'm currently living in Central Ohio(go bucks!) But I must digress... A friend of mine moved out to SDa little over a year ago for a job opportunity. He has since ran into hard times with the Mrs. He's asking me to move. I've never been out West, so i dont know what it's like. He offered me a job with the company he works for, so that's not of a concern. however, my passion is LE and that's what i would want to end up doing. I recently completed a 600 hour Basic Peace Officer Training Academy in Ohio. The job market isn't looking too good here, or atleast in central ohio. how many hours is SDs academy? Is it open enrollment? Do most departments in the Sioux city area have Auxilaries? According to my friend, he actually lives in SD, but lives in Sioux city. kinda weird if you ask me. nothing like that in Central ohio. Do you know what the in requirements as far as academies go Iowa and NE? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. I'm ready for a life change, and want to make sure this is for the best!! South Sioux City is Nebraska, North Sioux City is South Dakota, Sioux City is Iowa. Depends upon which side of the state line you are on. Total townage is around 80,000 all three added. If you are planning LE work there is a local college in Sioux City that offers LE degree so it pumps out potential cops in the area that take most the local jobs? Living on the South Dakota side would be the cheapest tax wise, Nebraska side the worst tax wise, Iowa side will mean no NFA firearms, and no CCW or Open carry. South Dakota will guarantee a carry permit honored by quiet a few states now. Nebraska carry permit is still in flux, but open carry is allowed and concealed carry if you have justification. Job market here pretty bad since the town was built around Gateway Computers and Tyson foods, Gateway is all but non existant now, some 7000 employees gone. Tyson foods is typical meat packer low rent gangland employees. South Dakota is rural, from where you are talking North Sioux City, you will be dealing with 1-2 officer city departments, county sheriff's depts. with 4 officers and 75miles north till you get to a town as large as Sioux City, very rural. I doubt they need any police. |
