The guys downstairs at Dakotamart will have and idea, or try the guys over at Teton Rivers Outpost(?) by the capital.  The VHA range that meltdown mentioned is the cats ass, I think its members only.

There was a 500yard range northeast of Pierre on 1804 North, right before you get to the ridge with the V cut in it for the road (about a mile short of that hill, Center of SD, Center of North America).

Riding stables off to the right, it is about 1/2 mile in.   Last I knew, they built a housing development next to it, then complained about the range, so I think it got shut down (even though it was there for 40+ years prior to the housing...)

Option 2:  West side of dam, archery range and 100yard rifle range on 1806, south of face of dam about 1 mile, there are signs (brown) guiding you to them, this is on the road that would take you into Ft. Pierre, about 1 mile WSW of the "crane" on the face of the dam.  The archery and rifle ranges are in different spots, about 3/4 mile apart.  Not sure if that is still open either.

You can go to the sporting goods section at Dakota Mart (downtown Pierre), and they can fill you in on where the ranges are, they are pretty knowledgeable.

Head west over the Oahe dam - about 1/2 mile south/west of the dam, on the west side of the road, (Hwy 1806 I believe) there is a sign that says "rifle range." Take the dirt road.

It's a public GF&P range, 100 yards. They have wooden target boards at 50 and 100 y
