| I am getting ready to move to the UP and was wondering what to do with my handguns. Specifically do I need to notify the cops about the handguns I already own when I bring them to MI the same as current residents do when they purchase a new handgun? Also I have SBR/SBS/Suppressors. Those should be good to go as long as I file a 5320.20 with the ATF correct? Thanks in advance. |

The NFA items are all good to go once you file a 5320.20 with the ATF. We have no restrictions on that. As for handguns you currently own, they will need to be registered on an RI-60. However, you will need to be a MI resident and MI does not recognize non-resident CPLs (your WI CPL, if you have one, after you establish MI residency). You will need to visit your local police department and obtain a pistol purchase permit RI-10. They will run a background check and allow you to register your pistols. |
