So, I dropped off my pistol sales record at the records office at the Sheriff's dept.  How do I know if anything ever gets done with it? What happens if it gets misplaced after I place it in the designated drop box?  am I on the hook for something? is my pistol an illegal un-registered handgun?  Should we instead be sending these in by certified, signature required, mail or something?
Thanks,
-T

Go back in a few days, they can do a LEIN search to confirm it.

They are required by law to give you a copy if you request it, they can charge you $1 a page if you've had many......mine was 7 or 8 pages long.

As stated you can check it if your that concerned. Otherwise dont worry about it. Its only a civil infraction. However, if you have a CPL it could cause you some greef with the Gun Board depending on your county and how picky they are.
