Went today for the first time in a couple of years, and probably the last time.  It was sad.

I went too.  Down to one building this time.  I was looking for a chinese SKS in the $200 range for my brother.  Nothing under $300.  A year ago I picked up a nice one at this show for $160.  I did pick up a French MAS 36 from a walk in.  Got it for $100 w/ a sling, hang tag and instruction book.   I also found some 30 Remington ammo for  a friend.  So it was worth the trip from Mt. Pleasant.

I hadn't heard about it.

Went to the Kalamazoo show today

More than half of the people there were hawking Chinese bullshit/cheap knives, plus half a dozen "sign my petition" assholes were there, plus the usual number of "what will you offer me?" fuds. New was the number of people selling overpriced home brew tannerite. Not surprising was that most every gun in the place was overpriced, some several hundred over MSRP.

The only highlight of the show was a Kzoo local who makes ice mold trays that cast several self-standing bullseye targets in two sizes (which are only $10 and pretty sturdy), I've purchased several from On Target and picked up another from him at the show (its like shooting glass bottles but with no cleanup).

On any given weekend, there can be as many as 3 gunshows going on in the state.  This tends to thin-out the dealers that attend them.  I don't have a solution, but it does tend to reinforce the notion, that MOST Michigan gun shows are lame.

Agreed.

It's a danm shame.  I've been to a few gun shows with a pocket full of cash lookin for a fair price on common products, and found nothing.  Well, Birch Run at least had roasted almonds, but a 200+ mile round trip for roasted almonds was quite a let down.  The knife collector checking out a NASCAR knife with a jewlers loups was kinda funny though.

I pretty much quit going to gun shows.  I leave every time feeling like I have been raped and I didn't even spend a dollar....  Just the admission price alone is enough to make a guy feel violated.....

Bought some P-mags there for less than 14.00 each.

Michigan gun dealers in general price their goods much higher than you can find online.  They don't deal in the volume to get good deals from the manufacturer or distributors, because most don't have a significant online presence.

I've saved literally hundreds of dollars by going through CDNN.  I've saved a good deal of money going through other online companies. I'd like to keep my money in the State of Michigan, but not at a personal cost of hundreds of dollars.
