| hoping for some help here. i am a resident of NJ yes sad i know. but i am planning a trip to MI and i do have a non- resident Florida and Utah CC permit. Will I be able to carry openly with the permits i have? I know i can not carry concealed because they do not honor out of state carry permits. anyway thank you for the help ! |

You will be able to legally open carry with those permits. You just have to be careful about staying away from the pistol-free criminal empowerment zones, and you cannot open carry in a vehicle. The firearms must be unloaded and encased either in the trunk or someplace inaccessible to the driver/occupants.
MCL 750.234d addresses the pistol free zones. It states that it does not apply to those permitted to carry a concealed weapon, but not sure as to the applicability as your permits are non-resident. Michigan State Police has a section dedicated to Michigan firearm laws, including MPS Legal Update #86, which specifically addresses the issue of concealed/open carry. |

It's up to OP and I fully believe that rights seldom exercised are often lost, but just so you're prepared OP a lot of the general public doesn't know about this Legal Update. Things are getting better, but if someone sees your gun, they may call the police, and they may dispatch officers out for a chat. Some local LEOs are better than others. Some are downright outback Nazi style for no good reason. Warren PD proned some guy out a few blocks from my house while he was OCing, not robbing or raping, or stealing anything. He was walking to the grocery store. Fucking dumb. DP |
