After doing the the Taylor PPC shoot I'm feeling brave enough to try out an ACTS match.  As in Taylor I'm going to be a complete newbee.  My question concerns the basic equipment needed.  I have a 16" AR I'm going to set up  with a Aimpoint and BU iron sights.  Probably will use my G22 for the pistol.  This Ok?  Now I need to know what else I should have to participate.  Would a beginner be welcomed?  Also, anyone driving from the metro Detroit area?

Thanks!

Sounds like you're GTG, just make sure you have a sling setup so you can transition from rifle to pistol safely. For example, a VTAC or BFG 2 pt sling lets you basically drop the rifle, it slings muzzle down, you can draw handgun and blast away.

ACTS gets newcomers every month, come on out and have fun.

Minimum needs for an ACTS match

1. Rifle with some kind of sighting system
2. At least 2 magazines, preferable 3
3. Rifle sling
4. Rifle ammo
5. Magazine pouches for said magazines (can be belt mounted or on a vest)
6. Pistol
7. At least 2 pistol magazines, preferable 3
8. Pistol holster with some form of retention
9. Pistol ammo
10. Ear protection
11. Eye protection
12. Weapon oil to keep your AR running

You can bring other stuff like knee/elbow pads if you have a hard time going prone. Best thing is to check out the website at www.actshooters.com and check out the rules at http://www.actshooters.com/rules.html

And you're welcome to come out and participate anytime.

Thanks for the help.  I will get out there this year.  Is there a main contact to get in touch with before I do?

Nope, no contact needed really. I'd recommend joining up on the forum linked above and getting the lay of the land. Other than that, come on out and walk before you run ;)

Another option somewhat closer to us east siders is Mi3gun in Brighton.  Third Sunday, April through Sept or Oct.  $35, multi-gun format.  Great bunch of guys, about 75 shooters every month.  You need a shot gun too.  But if you bring the ammo, I'm sure someone will let you use theirs to try it out.  I know I will.
