Did anyone hear about the new place opening in Shelby township? Its called Close Quaters Traning, cqtusa.com. It is around a 20,000sq ft building with a 1200 sq ft in door training house and many extras. They are having an open house this weekend. I hope to make it up there and see for my self, It sounds like a awesome place.

I do want to meet Al Dustan one day.

I was there last week and got a tour before they opened and it looks like it's going to be nice.  It will be nice to have a place you can shoot rifles in doors when it's cold out.

I forgot to ask about their brass policy, I hope it's not one of those places that if it hits the floor it's theirs.

Oh, and it looks like they carry a complete line of Airsoft.  Awesome!

Did you read why?

The airsoft is for force on force LEO training.

It won't matter why.  The clientele they're going to attract will be a detriment to the entire establishment.

So they're going to tell all the kids they can't play?  I kinda doubt it.

Sorry guys, but I'm skeptical.  Hopefully I'm all wet, and it ends up being a professional place to learn and shoot.  Only time will tell.

What kind of clientele do you think they are going to attract?

Like I said, I hope I am wrong.  Whenever I see Airsoft in the pro shop however, it makes me skeptical.

When I was there I was skeptical of the Air soft as well, but after looking around they don't carry any cheap guns, Air soft or real.  I don't think they are going to cater to hood rats.

If you look at their web site it looks like they offer some good classes.  After talking with some of the employees it sounds like there will be lots of law enforcement using the facility but they still want to help train the public. I'm not law enforcement and I was treated great.

Their classes cost a LOT. I got a tour of the shoot house though. That was interesting. Deceptively large.

The shoot house more than makes up for the 12 year olds who were gearing up for an airsoft game when I was there.

That shoot house is fucking badass!

I've got to admit though, I'm a little bit skeptical they can bring in enough money to cover the enormous cost of a facility that large.  Hopefully they'll do okay.

From their website:

Urban Rifle Level 1
Course Fee: $175.00

Urban Rifle Level 2
Course Fee: $250.00

Urban Rifle Level 3
Course Fee: $400.00

Assuming these are full-day courses, the prices for level 1 and 2 are comparable to other schools.

Update: talked to Al Jr. about this today. Level 1 is a full day course. Level 2 is 2 days. Level 3 is 3 days. They run a lower round count than other schools because they put more emphasis on dry training as runup to live training. Made Al Jr. aware of this thread, he can go into more detail if he wishes.

For those in the SE MI area, the location is convenient which saves gas money. Plus being indoor you can train all year round if you want.

I was shooting on their pistol league before they moved to the new location, and look forward to getting back to it. Good group of people, great facility.

I finally made it over to this facility today to shoot a little bit.  I was pleasantly surprised that everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful.  The best part is that it's close to my house so I will be able to go shooting more often!

Yeah, and they don't honor other trainers' schooling, and I have no idea who their trainers are, and you have to go through a LOT of the classes to get to something interesting like the shoot house.

It's all their prerogative, and I honestly wish them nothing but the best. The more top-notch facilities like this, the better. I'll shoot there someday, but for my money a MDFI class is more valuable.

I finally got to over to CQT to do some shooting on Monday after lunch, it was pretty empty.  I like the way there target system works you type a distance into a little computer and it sends the target out to that distance 0 to 80 feet.

I rented a Steyr 9mm compact I didn't like the sights but it shot ok, I'll stick with my Glock 19. I also rented a Kriss and wasn't impressed with it at all.

I got to keep my brass.

You may need to demonstrate your abilities instead of walking in off the street with various sheets of paper in your hand, but there is some give and take there. There's a way to test-out of their level 1 classes, it's mentioned on their website.

It's all spelled out on the website if you take the time to look.

Quoted:...and you have to go through a LOT of the classes to get to something interesting like the shoot house.

Do you really want to go through shoothouse training with people who got there because they show up with an easily forged piece of paper? Can't say I blame them, lots of morons out there.

By chance, are you the same individual who approached CQT with a graphics design business proposition, which they did not pursue? Just curious, because most times reasonable people keep their bitching to themselves. I have a few minor issues with CQT, but I bitch to them privately and we're working to make it a cool place without all the public drama. Again, just curious.

Their stuff wasn't up there before... And I never got more than that from them in person. You have to realize that anyone can take classes and put up a shingle and call themselves trainers. Just because one was on the military doesn't mean they're automatically a great trainer. That glowing sell-copy they have on their website has to be backed up with real experience and real teaching cred.

Important caveat, lest you or anyone take me wrong: I am NOT casting aspersions on them at all - if they are what they say they are, great! We have a world-class training facility with world-class trainers in our backyards. But I don't know any of them from Adam, and I haven't even read anything by (or about) them in the reading I do.

They've varied their pricing quite a bit since I first talked to them in Nov 10. I attended their grand opening at the new place and was impressed. I hope nobody takes any of my statements as slams.

Yes I was the guy that contacted them regarding graphic design - that has nothing to do with any minor criticisms I might have about them or their facility. How you'd know about that is intriguing - were you present, or are they using you as a mouthpiece? May I ask your affiliation with them?

edit: I still don't see where you can "test out" of the prerequisites, which again, wasn't up there last I checked.

Stuff changes with this Internet thing, you know? They can make alterations (as they have, with their pricing) at the drop of a hat.

Important edit: you have to realize, some of us got an almost word-for-word spiel from the previous owner at the previous location as we got from CQT when they first took over... If some of us are a little wary, you have to filter it through that knowledge first... That said: So far what the Dustans and their people have told us they would do, they have accomplished. I give them a lot of kudos for that!
