Pretty much good to go other than no loaded rifles in the vehicle.  BUT unlike Ohio you can have loaded mags in the vehicle and can be with the rifle (just not in the rifle).  Also if the rifle is in a case or broken down it can be in the cab.

750.227d Transporting or possessing firearm in or upon motor vehicle or self-propelled vehicle designed for land travel; conditions; violation as misdemeanor; penalty.

Sec. 227d.

(1) Except as otherwise permitted by law, a person shall not transport or possess in or upon a motor vehicle or any self-propelled vehicle designed for land travel a firearm, other than a pistol, unless the firearm is unloaded and is 1 or more of the following:
(a) Taken down.
(b) Enclosed in a case.
(c) Carried in the trunk of the vehicle.
(d) Inaccessible from the interior of the vehicle.
(2) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or a fine of not more than $100.00, or both.

Home storage...up to you.

Knives..I think it is 3" blade on concealed ones.

Also open carry is allowed without any permit.  Although you may be harassed by PD...but the UP is allot more 'free' than the south end of the state.

i've traveled up to the UP to backpack and kayak over the years and it always seemed like another state/country once you cross the bridge. i know the folks i'll be working with refer to the lower peninsula dwellers as trolls b/c they live under the bridge.....

I live in hessel in the summer.  Im in college right now.

Its pretty slow in town in the winter.  A lot of people come up north for the summer.  The islands are beautiful.  There is decent fishing, lots of ORV trails.   I love the Les Cheneaux area.

There is a local range, but you have to be a member, its like 30 dollars a year.  But if you're smart, just go on the state land and shoot as much as you want.

Send me an IM if you've got any questions about the area. or, if you want to go shooting.

Welcome to the EUP.

Be glad you have a job there.  I grew up in the Iron Mountain area and I had to leave because the job market is in the tank.  After three years working on a project I am going to Alabama.   Can you say CULTURE SHOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????   I will settle back there someday.  My wife and I still have family there so we visit often.  In fact, she is there now until I get settled in AL.    Enjoy the good life.   It is truly God's Country.
