On Tuesday I picked up my duece and a half from the Selfridge auction a few months ago.  The brakes need to be bled so I had it towed, but other then that I only need to have a little stitching fixed on the cab soft top, one tire is flat and may need the tube patched (almost all the tires are new though), I put new batterys in it yesterday, and will need to do maintenance all lthe way around.  It runs like a top and seems to start easily.

Very nice!!   i watched the bidding but they went higher than what I want to pay for one.    We won an MLULL and my dad went down to Legune and got it.   The Gov. Liquidation people suck to deal with and they let some steal the rear steering cylinders off the machine and they bent the front driveshaft unloading it before the auction and didn't say anything about it.   Then when my dad got there they wouldn't let him put any fluids in the machine to get it running and load it.    He had to pay one of their guys $750 to load it

Thats a trick question.  The truck was $1710 plus auction fee and taxes, which came out to a little under $2000.  Then I had to have it towed home because the brakes need bleeding $350, I dropped off my cab soft top and rear tarp for repairs to the canvas $50, SF-97 form to get the title paper work from the government $60, later I'll pick up a gallon of DOT 5 brake fluid $??, and I have no clue what one tire repair is going to cost.  But the truck only has 5230 original miles, it runs perfectly, it had almost 3/4 of tank of fuel, its nearly 100% rust free, and all the tires are new or nearly new.  I still think I'm ahead of the game, I've seen these trucks in rough shape with high mileage selling for $4500.  We'll see what the real cost ends up being by the time its plated and if its reasonable still I think I may look for another one with a winch.

Yes DOT 5.  Look at the original lubrication order in 9-2320-209-12-1, page 4,  BFS brake fluid silicone (MIL-B-46176) is called for.  If you google that you'll find out thats DOT 5.

Yes, check the LO. Military vehicles generally use DOT 5 silicone.

Now you'll have to come by during the day, maybe after I put the soft top and cargo cover back on.

How do you find out about those auctions and when they are held?

I found out about the auction from a thread right here in the home town forum.  But now that I'm signed up I occasionally get emails about upcoming auctions.  Theres really no rhyme or reason for when the auctions come up even though there allegedly scheduled.  If you check the online auction schedule its populated with auctions that don't have any items in them yet.  Mostly I just keep going online now and checking weekly.
