My brother used to live in Michigan and still has a michigan CPL. He now lives in Wyoming and today after getting pulled over a Wyoming cop ran his papers and said Michigan is claiming he doesn't have a CPL. I know its still valid is there some reason they could have revoked it without his knowledge?
I am wondering if his moving west and switching his drivers license made them revoke his license.

Does michigan cancel a CPL if the licensee moves out of the state ?

If his license expired and he didn't renew it, they may have pulled his CPL as he is no longer a resident, but I'm not sure this is the case.  I do know for sure that once you move out of state your MI cpl is nulled, you need to get one from your state of res.  So if he got a WY license they probably reported to MI and they whacked his license and CPL.  Best bet to get a WY CCW.

It didn't expire but he did move out of state and switched his driver license. According to the license he still has a couple of years left on it.

Hes not eligible for a WY CCW until he's here 6 months.

There you go. You can't legally have a driver's license in more than one state.  As soon as he got one in another state, his MI DL was revoked, including the CPL that's attached to it.

MI doesn't issue non-resident CPL's like some states do, therefore you must be a MI resident in order to have a MI CPL.  Tell him to look into getting a UT CPL in the mean-time.  Non-residents can still get those I think, and they're good in several states.

I knew they didn't offer out of state CPL's but I didn't realize they would revoke already issued permits because someone left. Its good to know.

It would be nice if they would send out a letter or made some effort to let people know they revoked their permit.

If the cop wasn't a nice guy and gave my brother a break he could be in jail right now.

They don't revoke just because he left, they revoked it because he got a DL in another state.   The MI CPL is attached to the DL through the Sec. of State computers (DMV), so they take the fact that he got a DL from another state as proof of no longer being a resident, which makes the CPL automatically void.  That's one of the reasons why it makes sense to get a CPL from a state like Utah that issues to non-residents.  That way if you are moving you still have some continuity, since most states want to to be a resident for a ridiculously long time before applying for their CPL.

Glad he didn't get hooked up.
