Today I went to my local PD to get a purchase permit. I arrived about 2:45. I get the forms from the guy at the desk, fill them out and take a seat as directed. It's about 3:30 now. A second guy walks in and asks for the same thing but he is told by a different guy at the desk that the officer in charge left at 3:00 and is gone for the day. So I get up and go to the counter and tell the guy that I was here before 3:00. After a few minutes they say one of the cadets can take my application but that she is processing a prisoner if I want to wait. I decide to wait.

Around 3:45 the cadet comes in and starts to process my application. She is having problems logging into the system. She has IT come over and they reset her password. She tells me that she's going to skip over me for now and help the other people in the lobby while IT figures out what is wrong with the system. At 4:30 the cadet and her supervisor come back and tell me that the State of MI computers are down. They apologize but they will be unable to process it until the State of MI gets their end back up. I have to go back tomorrow. The supervisor says they will file my form and gives me a signed note saying that I already passed the test and have a application on file, but not yet entered.

Bottom line is that what should have taken a few minutes took nearly 2 hours and I still don't have my LTP. Good thing I have this week off and can get back to the PD tomorrow AM.

I need my CPL!!!

Good to hear today went better.  I believe a CPL "pays for itself" in this regard.  It has made purchasing handguns so much easier.  Saves time and time is money.

I tell everyone to get a CPL, even if they have no inclination of carrying a firearm right away.  You can never tell the future.  You may cut someone off in traffic next month who turns into a crazy stalker, and if you already have the CPL you can decide if you want to carry at that point.

If you get the CPL...carry. Don't wait for something bad to happen. It might be too late.
