I applied for my CPL about 2 months ago, now I have to go in front of the board since I'm in Macomb county. Does anybody know what sort of questions are asked and would anybody care to enlighten me on the process?
thanks *edit hmmm, I guess I should change my state to MI... |

I went in front of the board in 03. IIRC they asked what I wanted the permit for, I said "personal protection" and one of them asked if I had anyone threatening me, to which I said "No" and then they blanket approved us all.
There was even a guy there that had an "other than honorable" discharge from the Army and he got his permit. It was a breeze. Just don't go dressed and acting like a meth head, you'll be fine. |

They looked thru my criminal record while I was being questioned and mentioned my my Attempted Drag Racing conviction. Before I could say anything, he mentioned that it wasn't a disqualifier and the guy from MSP winked at me and smiled.
Macomb Co. is pretty good on CPL's. They have been doing it since before the CCW law went into effect for us Serfs. They aren't going to grill you. |

I attribute a lot of that to our Sheriff, Mark Hackle. Still much, much, much more restrictive than many states however.

You know there is a 6 month wait after moving back right? This has been modified slightly along with the elimination of a safety inspection. The new Act that went into effect Jan 6 now states that if you possessed a valid CCW permit from another state at the time you established residency in MI, the licensing board "may" wave the 6 month requirement. I'm going to put this to the test in the next 2 weeks. |
