I have shot at a couple DNR Ranges. There is a really nice one with cement shooting benches just west of Allegan on 118th. I have seen another just south of Middleville on Yankee Springs Road.
Are there any other DNR ranges? Is there a master list somewhere? |

I cant get the link to work. Google search "michigan dnr shooting ranges" and the first result will be the dnr list of ranges in the state. Just click on the county on the map and it'll give you a list.

That list doesn't list the two that I know of so there must be a larger list somewhere. I think I'll call the Allegan DNR office and see if they know.
I did read in the sticky above: You may target practice with an identifiable backdrop on any State owned land that is not a State Park or posted "no shooting".
However, I'd rather shoot at these somewhat designated places. I was looking for more places closer to SW Grand Rapids. It takes me 45 minutes to get to the one down south of Middleville. |

OK, it turns out that there are not a lot of these DNR shooting ranges. The only way I found to get a list of them is to call the Habitat Biologist for the DNR office that is in charge of the State Games Areas in the County in which you are looking for a Shooting Area or Shooting Range.
He is the person to call because he would be the one to supervise any employees responsible for cleaning up the sight. I think most of the areas started out as places in State Game Areas where local guys new had a good back stop and an access road (two track in some cases). Over time enough people started using the same location that the DNR thought it would be good idea to invest some resources in these areas. Gravel parking lot, signs (not very many), mowing fields used for clay shooting etc. Kent County has three that I know of: Rogue River (not exactly sure where this is) Yankee Springs Road (Take M37 south of Middleville. On one of M37's curves to the left Yankee Spings goes straight. Follow that a ways and look for a 2 track off to the left. It is near a sign that shows a curve ahead) Morse Lake Road (Very close to the one listed above south of Middleville) Just south of 108th on Morse Lake road is a two track entrance to a parking area. |

Rogue River (not exactly sure where this is) http://www.michigandnr.com/publications/pdfs/huntingwildlifehabitat/sga/roguervext.pdf I have never been there but have heard that there is some sort of shooting area there. A buddy said he uses it to sight in his deer rifle. |
| Alright...I stopped by Rogue River Game Area yesterday and...there is what some would call a range. It looks like it is basically set up for sight in. If you look on mapquest in that area about a tenth of a mile north of Fonger Ave on the East side of the road, there almost looks like there is a twotrack heading from Algoma eastward toward the river. That is where the range is set up. So the backstop is the trees. The parking area is somewhat plowed but not very well. |

You must be looking at something else. |
