Alright i live in Oakland County. I've been Coyote hunting a lot lately but only with a a .22lr and someone informed me that I could use a larger rifle (even though i live in a shotgun zone) for varmints but just not during deer season. I've looked on the DNR site and rule book and just cant seem to find an answer. Everyone I know who hunts, all give me different answers.....arghh please help! Id rather use my .223 for the take down power than the .22lr thanks, Ratliff |

DNR FAQ There are lots of other related questions, and you can always call and ask. I've called a few times to ask questions and they've been pretty good about answering them. |

You can use any caliber you'd like during daylight hours. During night time predator hunting, you may only use rimfire calibers and shotguns, no buckshot or slugs. The hours are listed in the guide. This is correct and true, but does not guarantee that you won't be harrassed by the Possum Gestapo. My coyote gun for day and night time is a scoped .22WMR, and I hunt Oakland county too. Rarely do I come across a situation where I could benefit from a .223 or .22/250. I use the Winchester Supreme 34 gr. JHP and it knocks the hell out of them to 150 yards. |

One more consideration.............. You are legal to use any caliber during daytime hours as long as it isn't deer season according to state law. BUT......... You also need to be aware of any local laws or ordinances that may prohibit it. Some townships have their own restrictions that are tighter than state law. Good luck. |
