Just wondering if anyone else has been harassed by charter members while shooting your AR?  I'm not talking about John, the older gentlemen that works the little shack, he's cool.  But just random charter members that give you the 3rd degree b/c your shooting and AR.  For me it's becoming a common occurance and a nuisance.

FYI, for those of you that shoot tactical rifle, and like to practice, failure drills, NSR's, box drills, or any drill that requires you to use your sling, forget shooting at West Walker.  If it's not bench shooting, they don't want you there.  Spend the extra money and go to South Kent.

And if the charter member who gave me a bunch of sh!t on Sunday is reading his, don't sneak up on a shooter while their shooting and tap them on the shoulder.  Someday your likely to get an elbow in the eye or worse.

Ok, I feel better.

What does "bunch of shit" entail?

I've gotten crap of shotgunners at my club who look down their noses at guys who prefer web gear to twill. I either blow them off, or offer to let them shoot my rifle. In any case, I don't let them bother me too much.

A bunch a sh!t would entail, using my homemade IDPA target stand and not the provided target boards, having my target stand at 15yds and not at 25yds, and slinging my rifle while transiting to pistol.  Just to clarify, my IDPA target simulates a man of 5'-8" tall.  I still had 10-15 of backstop above my target and was next to the berm to avoid having my target in the way of other shooters.

This clown was leaving skeet leaque, drove by on this way out, saw me in full kit shooting an AR, and decided to pick of beef.  The dumb thing was he never even checked to see if I was a member.  I think he was just trying to impress his daughter in the car. What a clown!

vote with your money.
but i will say that having just watched the SKSC safety video, SOP at SKSC anyways for target placement is always place target within 3ft of backstop on the short-range bunkers.  the firing line is then wherever you are shooting from.
i would guess that WW also prefers targets to be up against backstop.

I used to be a member of West Walker but got tired of supporting the "charter members". Went to Sparta but got tired of the drive. Currently at Silver Bullet but getting tired of the same old stuff. I was thinking of going back to WW but if they have an attitude about AR's then maybe South Kent would be better.

Afsdad- South Kent does have a few fudd's but overall it's a pretty good club.  The fudd's are usually either shooting their shotguns or hanging out in the clubhouse.  99% of the old timers are freindly, easy going guys.

Here's the 500 meter rifle range, incase you haven't seen it.

Nice.  I've only been to WW a couple times, but I wouldn't buy in there.  I thought you gave up on them Powereng?

FYI - I'm heading out to the usual place on Saturday if you're free, PE.

I decided to give WW another try. Mainly because it's only about 15 minutes from home. When I went there today to check them out I took my son with me. I was pleasantly suprized when the old guy in the shack said he could be my guest. My son is 24 yrs. old and home on leave from the Air Force. Next week he goes to Germany for 3 years so it was nice getting in some trigger time before he leaves. We are going back tomorrow with the "big" guns. I'll see how they treat us when the black rifles come out.

I've been looking at South Kent for a while, just trying to justify the drive.  Does anyone know if they offer any type of 3-gun competitions?  If not there, then anywhere else in the west michigan area?

I currently do some steel plate pistol shooting, but with my new AR I'm looking for some 3-gun or similar competitions.  Any help is appreciated.

Give ACTS a try.  It may not be 3-gun, but it will definitely give your AR and pistol a workout.  Good group of guys & gals with a little competition thrown in.  We shoot the second saturday of every month.  I'm from the west side and I make the trip every month.
