On the floor of the US Senate, Powerful Anti-Gun Senator Carl Levin used Zumbo a reason that guns must be banned:

Mr. LEVIN. Mr. President, the National Rifle Association leadership has stated repeatedly that a ban on assault weapons is ineffective and unnecessary. They assert that guns labeled as assault weapons are rarely used in violent crimes and that most people use them for hunting. However, despite these repeated assertions, the list of

[Page: S3348]people speaking out against assault weapons continues to grow.
Jim Zumbo , an outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoor magazines, delivering lectures across the country and who starred in a highly rated TV show about big-game hunting. Jim has been an NRA member for 40 years, and, according to his Web site, has appeared with NRA officials in 70 cities across the country. This relationship changed drastically when Jim expressed his commonsense opinion on assault weapons.

Last month, after learning that some hunters were using assault weapons to hunt prairie dogs, Jim expressed his thoughts in his personal blog on the Outdoor Life magazine website. He wrote:

Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them ``terrorist rifles.''

He continued by stating that in his:

..... humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our ``sporting firearms.''

The reaction from NRA officials was swift and callous. They immediately severed all ties with Mr. Zumbo . His TV program on the Outdoor Channel was canceled, and his longtime career with Outdoor Life magazine ended. In addition, many of his corporate ties to the biggest names in gun making, such as Remington Arms Co., were terminated.

Jim Zumbo has worked for years to improve the image of outdoorsmen. As he put it:

As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the prairies and woods.

We all owe Jim Zumbo a debt of gratitude for his forthrightness, his honesty and his courage. We must put the safety of our communities first by taking up and passing sensible gun legislation that includes renewing the assault weapons ban.

In any event Levin has to be put out to pasture so it might as well be the gun issue that does him in. I've fought this bastard tooth and nail in the past and I'll be more than happy to cause him some more grief and aggravation times ten in the next couple of years as his re-election cycle draws near.

Well, if people would put 1/2 the effort into getting rid of Levin as they did nailing Zumbo, it would be a done deal.

If you're a democrat that likes guns then you shouldn't be voting democrat.

Just take a look at how many pro-gun bills were put forward by republicans versus anti-gun bills by Democrats and the choice should be crystal clear. The Democrats never support pro-gun, pro-freedom bills, NEVER.

It wouldn't matter if he did read this board. He's a gun grabbin left wing liberal pinko POS who looks down his nose at people like us who value our constitutional rights. His view is you want to shoot assault weapons - "join the army". There's no reasoning with him. We are his enemy as he is ours. He truly is an enemy of freedom in America and I chased him across Gratiot Avenue and inside to the Mt. Clemens VFW with a megaphone shouting just those words at him some 12 plus years ago during the battle against the 1994 AWB. We'll never change this old bastard. We can only hope to cinvice Michigan voters that term limits need to apply to Levin and turn his ass out to pasture. If it happens I'll throw the going away party!

hhhmmm I'm not sure the chasing really helped our cause. but I mean I guess people on both sides do it, and I guess it seems silly to me no matter who would have been doing it. I'm going to put this out there that neither political party is really on the side of the 2nd ammendment. These neo cons in power seem to be making big brother more powerful than ever and some of the left wingers are trying to pull the same old B.S. that they have been for years. The political scene is really starting to make me sick to my stomach. I wrote about 4 michigan representatives in response to the new proposed anti gun bill brought up in the house (?). The one response I got was from carolyn kilpatrick...... and guess what, it was a canned message having to do with labor relations thanking me for my support of her views in supporting labor unions . The other jerks like levin didn't even give me the time of day. good to know my interests are being represented and my view and opinion matter. and yes I know he's not in the house I just sent out a message in general because the more people that you annoy the more likely you are to get a response or some action.

*edited to add:
haha bustoff thats hilarious. I'm glad someone is out there making htem remember. I can't blame you for chasing them around, frankly I'd join you but it just makes me sick thinking about how even if I got them to agree with me they would turn face and vote with out reason. This thread made me realize how much I thus far have appreciated AG cox, I actually just got done sending his office and email with my gratitude for his support thus far of our rights

Well yeah - I chased Comrade Dave Bonior around the district and Lenin was just extra meat, both cut of the same socialist cloth. I did the same with Republicans keeping all of them in alignment except for 1 - Fred Upton - think he cut a deal? But those are old war stories - the new ones look to be shaping up!

If you get the chance to do it again... try to do it during rush hour and into oncoming traffic... preferably a bus.  Post vids/pics ASAP.  Then we have the farewell party.  Dying is supposed to be a celebration right?

I don't think him or Debbie Stabescowsforfun have accomplished anything really, ever... they just cry a lot.  The only reason they are still employed is the fact that there are a lot of older folks who think that "he/she has done a good so far, so why change?" <- Was told this multiple times by people 60+  folks in the 30-55 range said "I don't really care for either candidate, which equates to.... I'll probably forget to vote and sit at home and drink some more beer.", and most of the people in my age group 20-30 don't get involved at all with anything.  I had a guy that told me he would vote for Nader for everything.    Sad....

Really?  What ban has he introduced on the floor of the house????    The Senate?????
What new bans were introduced by Republican controlled bodies?

I'll hold my breath here and wait for your answer.

What new bans were introduced by Republican controlled bodies?

Well, George Bush (senior) had a Republican controlled body, supposedly. Quote:
++++++
"In May of 1989, President Bush made the import ban permanent, and proposed a ban on all magazines holding more than 15 rounds, but he backed away from active support for a ban on any additional guns. Under the Bush proposal, all large-capacity “ammunition feeding devices” currently in private hands would have to be registered with the federal government, under terms similar to the current registration of machine guns."
