Does anyone have a contact in the MDOC in regard to the possible prison closing and release of paroled prisoners in Jackson?. I am getting conflicting stories that this is a power play by the Governer to get the 2% service tax in place and raise the sales tax to 8%. Then others are saying Granholm will close the Southern Michigan prison regardless. I am trying to find out how they can release these individual in mass into a state that is leading the way in unemployement and now has one of the worst credit ratings in the United States. If they attempt to enter the local population what is the plan for step down housing and parole officer monitoring of these individuals?. With a 50% recidity rate what will happen when these individuals are caught, will they be brought to other facilities that are even more over crowded?. Looking for budget reductions? why not run the prisons like Sherrif Joe Arryo in AZ?. He always seems to come in under budget to the state and the recidty rate in his region is less then 20%. Call me a socialist but if you break the law as a repeat offender and there is no chance for rehabilitation why are we creating a world with special needs for you to exsist with in ?. We have people in this country struggling to attain higher education loans etc but we spend billions of dollars creating "Criminal Universities" for these individuals to hone their crafts and come out as life long criminals. Sorry I have to step off my soap box now. Any help on that contact would be appreciated.

Most of the "criminals" that are going to be released are those who are in there cause Michigan has harsh jail penalties (instead of fines and community service) for stupid shit and little to no penalty for serious crimes.  We have people in jail for possession of pot for 5 or more years, but rapists and child molesters do 1-3 years and get some probation and go on a list (lot of good that does to protection kids) .  And, don't think for one minute I am in support of drug usage.  I just think if a bunch of rednecks want to sit around in a pole barn filling it with hydrogen from cooking up battery acid, fertilizer, and Claritin D (since I have to go through hoops to get a box of it for allergies), let em kill themselves off.  Take possession of the land and sell it to pay the deficit if that crap is found to be manufactured on the property.

Granholm is crying about how our budget is going down the tubes, yet she wants to hike taxes so citizens have even less money.  Then to top it off, lets release a few thousand people who typically depend on society to take care of them financially cause all they do is sit around and play video games and dick off.  Then that <blankety, blank, blank> Granholm tells me that "We have to work together to bring Michigan back."  No, I don't have to do anything to help this state.  When she cuts her own damn budgets and starts leading by example, then we can talk.  Till then.  Stick it.  Stupid <blankity>.

Locally, just a few weeks ago in Grand Rapids, the city decided to shut down their bus depot everyday between 3-5 ( I think ), because of older teens getting rowdy and starting fights.  WTF?  Have the police crack em upside the head with their baton and call it good.  A few people get hurt and the rest soon figure it out by word of mouth... What happened to arresting people for committing a crime (public vagrancy and disturbing the peace)?  Fine these idiots to help offset the deficit.  Don't tell me I have to "help these honest, hard working, responsible, stand up citizens". Crap like this is exactly why I don't give a rip about helping the GrandMole dig her own ass out a hole.  You start proving to me that you want to improve the state of Michigan on all levels, and then people can work together to achieve other goals.

Part of the over crowding problem, as it was explained to me, is a result of Granholms previous cuts in the MDOC.  By reducing the number of psychologists in the dept, prisoners who could be made eligible for parole cannot be given a hearing.

They are required to attend classes in anger management for example.  With too few psychologists on staff to hold these classes the prison population is growing.

When Jenny cut the in prison GED education program, fewer prisoners qualify for parole as a result.

Sad irony is, the unions for officers & staff supported her re-election.  They didn't learn after the first time, now she's going to break it off in their ass again.

Yeah, well they deserve what they get then for voting that idiot back in office.  I feel bad for the officers/deputies that voted against her and are now losing their jobs because of her.  We are really going downhill in a hurry.  Blown away.... Understatement of the decade.

Now that they will be released i want to know if the current parole officer staff will be able to cover monitoring them?. If one of these releases commits murder, Granholm should be charged as an accessory to murder.

I'm sure they'll cut back on the parole officers as well.  They make a lot of money.
