Nah - Archangel - that's the first story. They printed something today talking about the cleanup shoot we have scheduled for tomorrow in which we clean up the range.

Hello,
I read your recent article written by Jennifer J. Decker titled Noise, blight a concern on state property. Frankly, I was rather upset with the fact that it left out some very important information about the area that us shooting enthusiasts call "The Pit" The pit is known state wide by many shooters and police alike. People have came all the way from Ohio to enjoy the ability to target practice with our 100% legally owned full auto firearms. Many days are spent out there by fathers and their children, teaching them the sport of shooting. It is a great place for many firearm owners to congregate, target practice, and just shoot the breeze. (no pun intended.) It is so well known state wide because it is the last place of it's kind for 100's of miles. Yes, it becomes a dump at times, but it is way off in the middle of nowhere, hidden by dirt roads and trees.

You did mention that the DNR rents a dumpster once a year. This is only part of the truth. The DNR actually rents them 4 or 5 times a year. 100% of the cleaning is done by us "automatic weapons group" and in fact, we have our last cleanup of the year scheduled for this Saturday morning. Many of us come out there with gloves, shovels, and a want to just clean the place up so that it won't get shut down. There have been times that we all gotten together with a group of pickup trucks to take some of the large pieces of trash to the DNR's dumpster to save on having a dumpster brought to the pit. So basically, us "automatic weapons group" are part of the solution.

As for the noise, did people forget that the Lapeer Drag strip is just down the road? That is a large producer of noise every weekend. I have no problem with this especially since it is owned by some of my family. I know people that have moved around there just because they enjoy drag racing so much.

All in all, the people that live in the area knew what they were getting into when they moved there. Do not try to shut something down that so many people enjoy so that a few people can quite complaining. I invite you to come to the pit this weekend and see what we do to keep this place clean and operating safely.

Thank you,
Kris June

Well, the article is not on their website yet, but I scanned it from the Sunday edition. It didn't make front page news though. There are quotes in there from 2 of our ARFCOM members. Mike Sessa (BustOff) and Kerry Morgan (MichMan1) Mine didn't make it. Oh well. Glad to see our opinion was voiced and the community has seen that we are all part of the solution and not the problem. Here is the article:
