| I've been thinking of buying a safe, the one im looking at weighs 500 lbs (one of the smaller safes) at Gander Mountain... I called up one of the moving companies that advertise as moving safes from GM, I couldn't believe the woman told me it would cost $355, anyone else know of a moving company in the down river area that would charge less? I got a truck and can get it home, but getting it in the basement might be a challenge, was thinking of trying to rig up a come along and slowly sliding it down the steps with the come along. Is it just me or $355 insane? |
| I just helped move my brother's 675lb safe on an appliance dolly. If you can get a handtruck that has the belt/brake for stairs, and have plenty of help, stairs should be no problem for you. Only two of us moved the safe. If the stairs are a straight shot, and you don't get in a hurry, it should be fairly easy. |

Yeah I think I'll try that, Im gonna call around and rent an appliance dolly, one of my buddies said that when his safe was delivered they used some sort of electric dolly that would climb the stairs, My house has a side door with a straight shot to the basement It shouldnt be too hard, the guy at Gander Mountain said they would help me get into my truck, getting it down should be easier |
Furner, Im too far from the Rapids im in Lincoln Park just a few miles south of Detroit, I think my brother and I are gonna handle it. I have the truck and gonna rent a heavy duty Appliance dolly. No way can I dish out $355, thats taking away my gun money |
that price is outragous. at that rate they should lovingly place your guns in the safe, and only after cleaning each and every one of them |
| shit, i just got a new 800 plus pound one, moved it in the house and through 3 rooms, and a narrow ass hall way. i rented an appliance dolly with the stair roller and extra kick out legs with wheels for 15 bucks, got a couple of moving blankets, no one hicup, just take your time and plan it out. |
| I live by Kalamazoo and I bought a safe from Cabela's in Dundee. They helped me load it in my truck and when I got home I had a moving company bring it in the basement for me. They charged me about $75 to move it in the basement from the bed of my truck. I will probably be moving again soon and the hard part will be bringing that damn thing back up the stairs. |
