Anyone ever hear of a rifle range at Perch Point in Casco, MI? It's listed as being open to the public, no fees, and having an outdoor rifle range (100yd?) I'll call them on Monday but I'm hoping someone here has more info. |
| I used to be a member of PPCC but I don't believe the range is free and open to the public. They put in the rifle range and required the members to become range officers to shoot. They also wanted us, as range officers, to supervise the range at least once a year. I didn't want to be responsible for other shooters and was getting tired of the trap and NRA clays anyway so I dropped my membership. PPCC is open to the public for trap and NRA clays, I think on Mondays for trap and Sundays for trap and NRA clays but the rifle range was more of a thing for the members as I recall. The neighbors get pissed with all the shotgun fire and have since become even more agitated with the rifle fire the the club is very restrictive with the rifle range. In my opinion it is not worth the trouble to shoot there and I live about 7 miles away. |

I have shot Skeet and NRA Clays at BWSA. They do have a rifle range and a pretty long one if I recall, 500yd maybe? I have never shot at it as I always had a private range to use. A friend has one that I go to and then I found "The Pit" in Lapeer and I love that place the most considering I have been turned to the dark side....NFA and machie guns. The long range and single shot stuff is kind of boring now....to me anyway. But I still like shooting my Garands and M1A too. Anyway, BWSA has a pretty active hi-power club there. Used to be when you joined you got a key and could come and go as you pleased as I recall. You might like that. |

I'm a BWSA member. We have a 100 yard range and 200 yard range. You must get a range officer sign off on your card to usse the 200 yard range. We also have four 50 yard bays. There is skeet and trap too and an indorr pistol range. The club is not generally open to the public, but there are days when it is and you have to pay a fee, usually $10. Memebership dues are about $95 a yaer, plus $5 for spouse, another $5 for all your kids and then $15 for a range key if you want one. If you have a key, you can shoot on your own. If there is a range officer present, he can chanrge members $4 to shoot. This is supposed to be during scheduled events. There are no work requirements. But there are volunteer days to clean up the range. The Highpower league runs from May to Oct. It is one weekend a month and you have the option to shoot your match on either day. Its shot on the 100 meter range using the NRA reduced targets. It s 40 round match: 10 Standing Offhand slow fire, 10 sitting rapid fire, 10 prone rapid, 10 slow prone. Its fun, I've been doing it for a number of years. The shooters are all friendly. |

BWSA wants $130 for January 05 to August 2006 (no option for January 05 to August 05) but there is a $75 fee for December 2004 to August 2005. Go figure. A $70 option for January 05 to August 05 would have been really attractive as a "trial" membership so to speak. $20 range key fee or $15 range key fee depending on when you ask the person. $4 range fee or $5 range fee depending on when you ask, and only if a range officer is present.

| Blackcloud6, I have been a member of BWSA for a number of years. I helped build the 200 yd range in the late 80s. I moved out of the area about 10 years ago and haven't shot at the club in probably 5 years. Still a great bunch of guys and I still get a newsletter every month. The next time you're there, tell them I said HI, some of the old farts might remember me. |
