| Anyone hitting the show? |
| Just got back from the show. It was an OK show, but not much buying or selling going on. Most dealers were complaining about the lack of sales and I overheard a couple of guys moaning about the high price of ammo. AR and AK prices are all over the place as far as pricing goes. I did manage to sell the New England Firearms .223 and have a guy who said he'll call me on the FAL. I'd rate the show about a 6 on the 1-10 scale. |

JLShhoter I was there today and thought most items are high priced. I looked at the H&K .45's and some other handguns. The Wisconsin Deer Hunting rifles where priced all over, like you said. I was surprised at the lack of decent shotguns. I did see the one place on the north side near the back, the one with the Styer AUG for 4k. On the table he had a weapon tagged as FN FAL, $800. I thought man that’s cheap for a FN. I picked it up and seen it was an Century Arms. I bought some 9mm Federal and some Speer. I got home and found a small sticker on the back that said remanufactured to manufactures specs” I think I gat had on that one, But $24 for 150 rounds I will take them to the range. Over all I was not impressed with the show. The prices, I can get a a local dealer and have a store to walk back in if I have a problem. Oh and after holding the H&K Tactical, it does not fell go in my hand, so I guess I will stick to Sigs BTW, what type of FAl are you trying to sell? |
Congrats plunger!!!!!!!!!! Let the fun begin. I love my 1911s. Quinn556, My FAL was built by George Gouger out of Oregon. He built it on a Imbel type 3 receiever. I think he used a STG kit. If you are not familiar with George(also known as Double G Gunsmithing), he was originally from Michigan(Ypsilanti) and became so sucessfull at his gunsmithing trade that he moved out west and now does it full time. He has about a 10-12 month wait for his guns. I wanted one of his FALs but wasn't willing to wait that long and I took this one on a trade about 2 years ago. I'll post a couple of pictures later today. I'm asking $800 for this one. Trying to raise funds for another project, but could be open to trades if something fun comes along. |

I went on Saturday to go 1911 parts shopping. Nothing real spectacular. No-Ban bushy ARs were priced $800-900. Some dealers still haven't yet figured out the AWB sunseted and are continuing to sell old pre-bans at $1200+ prices. Any Exotic weaponry? Not really. One guy had an HK94 strapped to his back that he was letting go of for: $2,500. As for 1911s, the selection was pretty miniscule. A few SA milspecs and GIs, and a small selection of Kimbers. One Les Baer Thunder ranch was to be seen. Nothing really high end except maybe the Wilson/Brown parts guy-and that's just parts. Prices for Dependable 1911 mags are $25 and up; this is for Wilsons and Chip McCormicks. A few vendors had NIW USGI mags for around 7 bucks, but your milage may vary with those. As for drama, M&A parts did not show up, nor did "Goatee Guy" and nobody got choked 'till they're eyes popped out ![]() I still like MI Funshows, but much better deals can be found through the good, ole internet. ![]() edited to add: One vendor did have brand new Vector Arms Bulgarian AK underfolders complete with flash suppressor(Not 74 brakes), bayo lugs and (GASP!) GP-25 grenade launcer lugs! Must be registered as a pistol in MI however. Very cool, if you do not mind a non-existant cheekweld. |

I bought some tools, a wrench and upper vise, from the AR guy from Ohio (The one with the drill press in his booth). I was going to get a front sight protector but he didn't have one. I made a point of going over the the ranger one guy on the other side and telling him I bought tools from the ohio guy. When they were the only ones there they were dicks, in addition to being model one sellers. I was sad that the clip grip woman was wearing regular clothes. She used to really dress up like she was going clubbing and it was fun to look at her. I talked to her a little and she looked bad, maybe she has been sick. Her hubby was extra friendly which made me think the mag ban ending hurt him in terms of inventory investment because he was so busy denying it hurt him. |
JL If I was you I wouldnt advertise that Double G built your gun....I know he did have a good rep, but his' rep is now very bad. You should try and sell it on the falfiles you might be able to sell it but 800 is kind of steep for a parked FAL Double G Current Problems I'm just trying to give you a heads up, so please dont take it wrong. Bigant I went back an reread the link to the FAL Files that you listed above. Appears that all of Georges problems seem to be with kits he is selling and not shipping in a timely manner. I have not seen or read anything that would keep anyone from wanting to own one of his FALs. Keep in mind that this is a complete FAL that was built several years ago and at the time was widely excepted as some of the very best FAL work out there. Have you ever seen or shot any of the FALs that were built by Double "G" Gunsmithing? I know that there are lots of CHEAP FALs out there, but good ones are going to cost you a little more. Did you ever stop to think that DSArms FALs are just kits that they build and then sell for more that $1500. |
Just a FYI the DSArms FALs that they sell for 1500 are not made from kits...the STG 58's are kit guns and the main reason they demand such a high price is that the receivers from DSA are the best. Also that link might only be about Kits but their is way more info about George. All I have to say is he's a Freakin Liar and a Theif! Good Luck in your sale. Bigant |
Bigant, I appreciate your input about the FALs. I have done more research and see where George seems to be in way over his head. It's a shame because his work was/is allot better than most of the guys who wrench and repark them. Having said that, I still don't see how his current problems deminish from FALs that he built 5-10 years ago. I have not posted the gun and am not trying to boost the price thet I may eventually ask for it, but only trying to understand your position. I'll ask you again, "Have you ever shot or seen first hand any of George's work or are you formulating your opinion based solely on what you have read on the FAL Files?" Thanks, John |
