Assuming all went well, what advice could you offer to the son of Cuban immigrants and his fellow New-Yorker wife about where to live, what to do and not do, etc?
For the record, I'm so right-wing I put Atilla the Hun to shame, and my wife makes me look like Vladimir Lenin.., |

Howdy and welcome! A few questions are in order: Do you know where specifically you will be working? Are you required to live inside the county limits? How much of a commute are you willing to put up with? Do you have any school-age children? (regarding schools) Are you willing to submit to the Memphis area home town group initiation rituals? ![]() ![]() This will do for a start. ETA: Oh, and watch out for Hank The Hammer! |

Minnesota to Memphis? It's about the same.
NOT. I moved here from Iowa. Say good bye to any meaningful amount of snow and hello to some wicked hot weather. Aside from that, I would pick either Collierville or downtown if I wasn't on 20+ acres somewhere. And if I was on 20+ acres somewhere, I would have somewhere to shoot. BUT I DIGRESS. As the man said, information begets information, shoot me an IM if you know any particulars you don't want out in the open. |

THIS IS THE GUY I WAS WARNING YOU ABOUT...!!!!! ![]() But, but,..... we can get a crapload of ice... Actually, you should touch base with Hank directly. There are a lot of questions to be asked and answered. Right/correct answers always cost more... You have to figure out what you and your wife want and like. For example, Memphis has a vibrant midtown, but there are multiple downsides. Taxes, crime, politics... If you live outside the city/county, your taxes are much less, but you have the fun of running the unending road work on the interstate. I suggest you contact The Hammer. He can also get you sized for the ritual gimp suit you'll need....... but I have said too much..... ETA: I wanted to ask/enquire/intrude if you were floating Navy or floating/flying Navy? Nuke or Airedale? Shipboard or SOCOM? Inquiring minds and all that.... |

I can see that if this all works out, it will be a lively bunch! My wife and I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in living downtown, or anywhere near the city, for that matter. We are looking for a moderately-new house with plenty of room for her art studio, my man cave, and my workshop. She wants a pool and no crime. We both hate taxes. Our current house is 4600 sf on a quarter acre. We certainly wouldn't mind more land for a good kill zone, uh, I mean privacy. We looked at each other with big smiles when we read one house had a 12-person tornado shelter. She has been drooling over a few houses in Eads, and I've even seen a few winners posted down in MS. Offices I would be bouncing between would be near the airport and out in Cordova. I was a standard Mk I Mod 0 SWO, so I enjoy chuckling at some of the more stupid stuff on The Last Ship. |

I'm in North MS and commute into Memphis from DeSoto. Airport is about 15 minutes from my house. |

memphis really isn't "that" bad if you live in the right parts
North Mississippi is good also, we do have state income tax where Tennessee does not but depending on where you live in Tennessee it would be a trade off on property taxes. Unless you know what you are looking for (country life/zero lot line) or where you will be working in the area (general location) advice can be better given on where to live Collierville will probably be the highest place to live in property cost and taxes |
